Battlestar Galactica Online passes 5M players
by Garnett Lee, Sep 07, 2011 3:00pm PDTBattlestar Galactica Online now boasts more than five million registered players, Bigpoint revealed today. The browser-based free-to-play MMO based on the television series achieved this mark in only six months since its February launch. Building on that momentum, the company also shared plans for new ships being added to the game in the coming months.
"We listen very closely to what the players ask for and are happy to announce that more features and items, including a number of new ships, are on the way," said Bigpoint producer Sarah Levantine.
For starters, a new line of Fleet Recon ships will arrive beginning in mid-September. They feature a "Jump-to-Target" ability that lets them hop immediately to a battle where they provide recon combat support. The much larger Brimir Class Carrier is still on target to release this fall but no specific time could be given because its potential impact on game balance requires more testing before it can be released.
According to the press release over 25,000 people sign up to play each day. So if you haven't tried the game out yet, you should still find plenty of company should you decide to give it a shot.
