The Madden series is showing no sign of slowing down. At the 2011 Citi Technology Conference, Electronic Arts revealed first week sales stats for this year's entry to the revered football franchise. Madden NFL 12 has sold through more than 1.4 million copies across all consoles in its first week at retail. According to EA, that's a 10 percent increase over last year's first week sales.

In addition, the company is reporting a 78 percent increase in digital revenue, driven largely by Madden Ultimate Team. According to the company, nearly 200,000 Ultimate Team packs have been downloaded in the first week. The EA Sports Season Ticket subscription is likely adding to EA's digital bottom line as well.

Madden NFL 12 is available on PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, PS2, and Wii. Garnett reviewed this year's game, saying that it "remains stuck one step away from championship greatness."

If people would stop buying "madden roster update 2012" we might actually get an innovative game, except the rehashed old crap, every year w/ new players.

you're being ridiculous, the money EA makes on Madden allows them to make other games, you do understand that right?

it's obviously an unreasonable sentiment. As an individual, you can have Madden or nothing. You know (with almost certainty), that Madden is going to sell bajillions of copies. So you buy Madden because it's still enjoyable and better than nothing.

who cares? It's not a net loss situation, it's not like someone else has your apples. This game exists because there's demand for it. It makes 1.4 million jocks or more into gamers. How is that not good?

It's really pretty incredible that this series continues to sell this well. I remember playing these on the SNES in the early 90s. Pretty amazing staying power.

If there WERE competition they'd have to make a better game. Monopolies are bad.
(except for boardwark/park place. that monopoly is HARSH)

This is along the same lines as the CoD franchise. 1 improvement per game, per year and it sells 10 million copies.

When you are sole owner of the players license, what the fuck do you expect? If you want NFL players you HAVE TO buy Madden. When you eliminate the competition of course you're going to rack in the money. I hate EA's monopoly on thte NFLPA license. It's utter bullshit. When their is competition. They have fallen!

NBA? Done.... NBA 2K owns NBA Live

Do they own the NHLPA license as well?
