3DS Ambassador's free NES games revealed
Are you ready to download some free games, Nintendo 3DS early adopters? The ten NES games you'll get have been officially revealed by Nintendo.
Are you ready to download some free games, Nintendo 3DS early adopters? The "Ambassadors" program begins September 1, and all eligible 3DS owners will be able to download ten NES classics to their systems. But what are the games? Included in the mix is the original Metroid and Super Mario Bros, as well as two Zelda games.
Here's the full selection:
- Balloon Fight
- Donkey Kong Jr.
- Ice Climber
- The Legend of Zelda
- The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
- Metroid
- NES Open Tournament Golf
- Super Mario Bros.
- Wrecking Crew
- Yoshi
The downloads available on September 1 will be missing a few features. However, an update coming later in the year will allow 3DS owners to re-download the games, with added functionality like multiplayer. In addition, 3DS owners will be able to get ten free GBA games, five of which have been officially revealed so far.

If they don't put these up for sale for everyone else to buy, they're just going to get the ROMs anyway...

have the downloadable titles been hacked already?

I don't know about that. I'm referring to the idea that they won't release these games to the public after the Ambassador people get them (though now that I look at the old news item, it's just the GBA games). It'd a pretty stupid move on their part not to fill such a demand themselves, leaving people to turn to homebrew so they can get emulators and play them anyway.

I think they would. If I recall correctly, the Ambassador people will be getting the games with features such as save states, multiplayer removed. It'll be something like a beta piece of software. The emulators won't even enter "sleep" mode with the lids closed I think.
Once the games are updated out of beta, the Ambassador people will be able to update/redownload(?) them again, and I presume they'll be sold to the general public.-
At one point in time I read that the GBA titles (only 5 of which have been announced so far) will be Ambassador exclusive, and that the NES games will be made available for purchase.
