PlayStation 3DTV gets Resistance 3 again (as pre-order bonus)
by Andrew Yoon, Aug 29, 2011 6:00pm PDTOne of the stranger announcements at Sony's E3 press conference this year was its plan to develop a PlayStation-branded 3DTV that features an exclusive "SimulView" mode that enables two players to play full-screen multiplayer games together. The 24" screen retails for $500, making it an affordable entry point into 3D.
Oddly, Sony replaced the originally bundled game--Resistance 3--with the less buzz-worthy MotorStorm Apocalypse. Today, the company has announced that it will be including Resistance 3, in addition to MotorStorm, for all pre-orders.
The $500 bundle includes the 24" 3D display, one pair of 3D glasses, an HDMI cable, MotorStorm Apocalypse, and Resistance 3, only if you pre-order before September 30th. It's certainly a better than deal than before, but one can't help feel the package is incomplete without a second pair of glasses. The TV's much-touted "SimulView" mode won't work without purchasing another pair glasses, which usually retails for about $100.
Still, at $500, the PlayStation 3DTV remains one of the lowest price ways of getting into 3D entertainment. Watch this promotional video, which confirms that the TV can also be used as a computer monitor. Perhaps you'll be able to connect Nvidia 3D Vision graphics card to this baby?
