Microsoft continues its DLC strategy in the multiplatform content wars. As with Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, and Fallout before it, DLC for the upcoming Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be available on Xbox 360 first. According to the announcement, "the first two add-on content drops for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be releasing on Xbox 360, 30 days before it's available anywhere else."

"If you’d like to be the first to break new ground in Skyrim, Xbox Live is the only destination that won’t keep you waiting."

While it's too early to detail the game's DLC plans, Bethesda's Todd Howard told AusGamers that gamers can expect fewer, larger expansions for Skyrim. "Right now I can say that we'd like to do less DLC but bigger ones -- you know, more substantial," he said. "We don't know what we're going to make yet, but we'd like them to be closer to an expansion pack feel."

Of course, gamers that are fed up with Microsoft's DLC shenanigans may want to opt for the PC version instead. It will be the only platform that supports mods created by the community.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on November 11th. Check our latest preview for more.

While I'm pretty quick to rag on them for their models, there is a definite improvement in Skyrim.

I'll be too busy exploring every nook and cranny of the map to worry about DLC, it'll prolly be 2 months before I start the main quest!

^^^ This is how I roll, too. In Oblivion I didn't want to push forward too much because I didn't want portals opening too soon.

Oblivion punished you for not starting the main quest early enough, but it was an artifact of the combination of the auto-leveling monsters and the nature of one of the early quests. You're basically dumped into a small open area packed with high-end monsters. It was impossible with my stealthy archer guy.

I was just about to get pissy from this news, but what you say is the absolute truth. It'll be a very long time before I have to worry about additional content.

Yeah, it's not that big a deal. I can't imagine it being much fun blowing through the main game in a week. By the time most people finish up the DLC will be available for everyone.

So the game hasn't even been released and they are going to delay content for DLC.

IDGAF because PC gamers don't have to wait for The Man to tell them when they can have new content for an Elder Scrolls game.

Is that all Microsoft can do anymore? Pay for timed exclusive DLC?
