Kinect Star Wars delayed to reach 'full potential'

Kinect Star Wars and the associated Xbox 360 bundle have been pushed to next year, to "ensure the full potential of this title is realized."

If you're a Star Wars fan, your holiday wish list just got one item shorter. Kinect Star Wars has been pushed out of the 2011 line-up, most likely into sometime in 2012, a move which also by extension delays the Star Wars-themed Xbox 360. Microsoft says the delay is to assure the game lives up to its expectations.

"Microsoft and LucasArts have elected to move the launch of Kinect Star Wars beyond holiday 2011 to ensure the full potential of this title is realized," a spokesperson told OXM. "This move applies to both the Kinect Star Wars stand-alone game and the Kinect Star Wars Limited Edition Console. We will communicate additional timing information at a later date."

The gameplay demonstrations we've seen have included what you might expect from a Star Wars title, mainly featuring lightsaber battles powered by arm-flailing. Our own hands-on impressions from E3 found that the individual great ideas didn't add up to a cohesive game experience, so a little more time to cook can't hurt. Unfortunately, this also means we won't get our hands on the R2-D2 360 and C-3PO controller until sometime next year.
