Battlefield 3 co-op demoed at Gamescom

EA announced Battlefield 3 co-op today at Gamescom, and demoed the mode running on a PlayStation 3.

27

At EA's Gamescom press conference today, the company announced and debuted the new co-op mode for Battlefield 3. The presentation demoed the mode in action on the PlayStation 3, showing off synchronized shots to quietly take down enemies and reviving your partner. The mode will include ground and air vehicles as well.

Unfortunately, that demo won't be available yet. EA promises to make the video available within two hours. We'll update the post when it arrives. Until then, you may want to check out this new trailer instead. EA closed the show with a new trailer that highlights the return of jets to the series.

did the aircraft seem "slow" to anyone else?

yes but i guess they would have to slow them down a little bit to make it more playable

contrary to popular belief, random battlefield smacktards don't actually have the same kind of senses and reflexes of real world fighter pilots

It's not about reflexes (which are relative), it's about the size of the map. If you're going mach 3 in-game then you're going to run out of space in a handful of seconds. And the faster you go the wider your turn-radius.

May as well be driving a flying jeep.

I understand WHY they are so slow... it just looks silly. I'd be happy if jets were left as call downs ala CoD... leave the close air support to helicopters.

They should have done more with the CAS jets like they did in Armored Fury. Those were great because they were potent, but also had appropriate drawbacks.

I remember just using the afterburners in BF2 as I'm on the edge of the map and realize that I'm already on the other side..lol

were they any slower than BF1942/BF2 or are you just remembering things nostalgically?

If you compare the two, yes BF3 seems slower. I think it is just for control reasons. Plus I always thought that BF2 jets were over the top fast. So it is good seeing it toned down and more believable.

For a 64 player map those flag points looks pretty close together. I am going to bet jets get a tiny bump in speed at one point. The only other thing was I couldn't tell if 3d spotting was on or not. I hope they listened to the alpha complaints and turned it off

It's an arrow that follows them anywhere they run on your screen. So they can be hiding behind buildings but you still know exactly where they are. I prefer the old method of once a player is spotted they are only visible on the mini map.

To be fair though, the arrow disappeared much faster in the alpha than it does in BC2.

I like your color-coded map dot idea. I'd much rather see something like that than an arrow giving away the exact enemy location.

I think it would actually be really cool to have no indicators on-screen of where an enemy is. This way there can be a "spotting" skill, specialist, or button one would press to highlight the target, which would then be marked for all to see.

I'm sure they could find a way to balance that.

The whole interface and fast paced gameplay is just like BC2. Most of the features like health system, squad size, unlimited sprint, and flashy GUI is all from BC2 which is everything BC2 did wrong.

Also, I played in the alpha so I know what the game feels like. I know some things might have changed by then, but probably nothing game changing.

Granted this is a video but the vehicles look like they handle like BF2. I'm hoping the controls are as sensitive in BF2. They seemed too sluggish in the Bad Company games.

MANPADS Handheld Stinger Anti Air Missiles

Also you can damage jets so they lose maneuverability with MG fire.

My memories of BF2 were a few moments of greatness in between the:
        - plane stealing
        - C4 griefing
        - Jihad jeeping
        - Commander TKing (arty and/or supply crates)
        - Infinite buggy drops
        - Wall glitching
        - Missile lock on failure
        - Inability to see more than 100 yards
