Worms Crazy Golf announced for Steam, PSN

The Worms series is bringing its brand of comic mayhem to the thrilling world of golf with Worms Crazy Golf for PC, PlayStation 3 and iOS.

Team17's never been shy about working its Worms franchise hard, but at least the latest game will allow the annelids a little rest and relaxation. The developer today announced Worms Crazy Golf, the silly 2D turn-based strategy series' take on the thrilling and action-packed Scottish sport.

Worms Crazy Golf will swap shotguns and bombs for sticks and balls in 54 holes of 2D golf. It certainly embraces the "crazy" label, boasting ball-blasting cannons, sheep, parachute balls, magnets, mines, and mean old women, with nary a frustrating windmill or tedious slope puzzle in sight.

"We've had a great deal of fun playing the game in multiplayer during development," head of design John Dennis said in the announcement, "and with four-player social multiplayer support, it has all the hallmarks of the Worms brand: the trash-talking, pressure to make the shot, terribly unhelpful 'advice' from opponents, and often hilarious consequences when that risky shot that could have won the game goes terribly wrong. If players get half as much enjoyment out of it as we've already had, then we'll be very, very happy."

Unfortunately, there's no mention of online multiplayer in the announcement, only hot-seat.

Worms Crazy Golf will be released on PC through Steam, PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network, and iOS devices "later this year." There's no word on a price yet. Team 17's also working on revamping the two 3D Worms games with Worms Ultimate Mayhem, which is slated to launch on Steam, XBLA and PSN this year.

At least it's in 2d. Could be fun.

I don't understand why they don't patch-in replays and new weapons in worms reloaded :(

This will only work if I can drop a super sheep missile on your balls.

At least this sounds like a better idea than their previous strategy of just re-releasing an inferior version of Armageddon over and over again for a decade.
