End-of-the-world racer MotorStorm Apocalypse is getting a big update this Friday morning, "once PlayStation Network maintenance is complete." Among other things, the update expands support for a number of PS3 steering wheels and minor tweaks to online play like the addition of 'clan tags.' Most notable though, are the added abilities to customize game modes and share custom vehicle designs.

The new Mode Editor let's players create their own race parameters to use when racing either online or off, which significantly expands the number of possible race-types. The announcement explains:

The possibilities are vast: Tweak the standard Race mode so that vehicle attacks are disabled... or set-up a 5 round Eliminator mode, on mirrored tracks, for 15 Monster Trucks and 1 Buggy, with moon gravity, infinite boost and no brakes... or do something completely unexpected – we can't wait to see what you come up with!

Players will also be able to share custom vehicle designs, or grab the designs of others, online, simply by signing in with a PSN Online ID. All of the vehicle designs will "automatically work across all vehicle types."

Regarding racing peripherals, post-update, MotorStorm Apocalypse will support the following racing wheels: Logitech G25, Logitech G27, Logitech Driving Force GT, and Logitech Driving Force Pro.

Stats and activity will also be tracked on the game's community website, along with a new mobile app that will allow players to monitor the activity of their post-apocalyptic racing buddies.

Once the update goes live on Friday, it will be applied automatically the next time you launch MotorStorm Apocalypse while connected to the PlayStation Network. For more information about the game, be sure to check out our review.
