Dawn of War III is on the way, but its predecessor is getting at least one more piece of downloadable content. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution is planning a new DLC pack to highlight another piece of 40K lore: the Ultramarines. The pack is coming in a nebulous "future update," so we're in the dark for release timing. In the past, armor packs have cost $7.49, so this is likely to hit at the same price, but nothing has been announced. In a blog post, we got a peak at the units. Each of them carries "a distinctly Roman Empire influenced look" according to Relic artist Matt Kuzminski. This manifests itself in ornate armor styles and stylish plating. Kuzminski calls the Dreadnought his "favourite element of this pack," modeled after the Forge World version. Old Space Marine models have been replaced with Scouts and Devastators to match the aesthetic.

I haven't played DoWII, so I'm a little surprised to find out that Ultramarines weren't included in the box. Does it only have Blood Ravens?

As in DoW1, you can personalize your army... or rather, colorize it.
With those cosmetic DLC, the models are modified too.

You can play as any chapter, colors and emblems included. You can make and import your own emblems as well to make any sort of custom chapter. As you level up your army via PVP experience points, your marines get all sorts of visual upgrades. I think the Space Marines have like 35 visual upgrades that happen as you level through the 50 multiplayer ranks.

These Chapter DLC on the other hand don't include the leveling aspect, but basically modify the models and skins to best accentuate the unique visual flavor of the specific chapters in a very ornate way.

For instance, you could already play as the Dark Angels via color and emblem, but with the DLC the Tactical Marines wore robes, the Dreadnoughts were bone-colored ala Deathwing lore, and the Force Commander and Assault Marines had heavily altered appearances from the vanilla look.

I'm confused is this Ultramarines pre Titus or post Sicarius and before after The End of Time or something?

Man, no one here's into that stuff.

Wait, so people actually pay money for skins? Lame. If I am going to fork out more money for a game i have already paid for, it's going to be for some new content.

Except the new content is given for free with patches in this case.

I personally didn't pay. Although if they were to release DLC for Chaos...

They've released plenty of free content and ongoing updates for the game. This is cosmetic stuff for people that love particular chapters to display their unique lore flair better. Even if you don't own the dlc, you can see when other players use it in pvp matches. Everyone wins, and it is the best kind of DLC, because it doesn't split the community like things such as paid map packs do.

          Yeah, this.

Relic does DLC right, lots of free content (like Last Stand support and maps), but plenty of DLC that stretches from new wargear to skins to full on flair, but isn't critical to the game.

My only complaint is that their DLC is rather expensive. 7.50 for a few cosmetical changes is quite a steep price.

That's because you don't own 3000 points worth of Ultramarines. If you'd do you'd laugh at $7.50 for the whole chapter gear.

A bit to pricey for my taste, and Imperial fist are more my style.
