q3test owned my life last summer. I spent all of last summer playing that thing. Pure fun. I loved it.

Then that Glide only UT demo came out. Compared to the q3test multimedia wise, it blew it away. It was rich in content. It had music and CTF and it just seemed so much more rich. That UT demo is why I bought the full version. Also I bought UT becuase it came out before Quake3 did.

I played the Assault version of of UT everyday for that entire week before Quake3 came out. Then Quake3 came out and I saw that it was much better. It ran a hell of a lot better, etc. I played Quake3 CTF for quite a while.

The sad thing is this. Here we've got 2 brand new games. UT and Quake3. But at the same time, people are returning to 2 old games that were made in 1998! Half Life and Tribes.

I think there are more people playing Tribes now then when it first came out.

And it blows my mind how many people are playing Half Life.

Did anyone else here have more fun playing the q3test and the UT demo then they did the full versions of those 2 games?

I don't even have UT installed right now. If I don't like RA3, I'm going to uninstall Quake3.

Tribes is on the verge of being uninstalled.

That will leave Half Life as being the only game on my computer.

I am looking forward to the Tribes 2 beta test and I will be really pissed if I don't get selected. I hope I can spend my entire summer beta testing Tribes2. Then after that I want to play the Tribes2 demo. Then the full version.

Then Duke4, TF2, and Halo. That's it for now. Someday in the future, Doom3 if it's any good.

Good gravy, how many Ion employees are on this board? It wouldn't surprise me a bit if there were several, seeing as how Romero has to email his groupies and beg them to support his game. Sheesh...can you imaging Id or Looking Glass doing that? What a farce.

The reason people don't like Daikatana is because it simply isn't fun. Who is hell's bells wants to play diaper-nanny to two bumbling sidekicks for 40 levels? "Sidekick STAY! Sidekick COME! Sidekick MOVE! Sidekick ATTACK! Sidekick WAIT! Sidekick COME! Sidekick WAIT!...yeah, right...VERY fun managing two bozos in an FPS.

It goes like this:

Make a deep story driven game: It sells pretty good
Make a "shoot at anything that moves" game with purty graphics: It sells great.
Make a hunting game: It sells MILLIONS.

Of course there are exceptions to the rule (Half-Life for example), but this is the way things work...

I didn't buy this game. I played as much of the demo as I could stand. If the full version of the game is so much greater than the demo that I should go out and buy it, let me know. I haven't read too many reviews on it yet, but from the ones that I have read I'd have to say so far it's best I don't waist my money.

not too good... I played the demo, its not the game for me.. its a game I won't buy, but I lol at you guys that waited like 5 years for it.

Man, the one thing that really gets me is that if Daikatan utterly and completely bombs (thank God it doesn't seem to be according to the sales!) and puts ION Storm out of business...there goes Deus Ex and Anachronox.

I think its lame how all these wanna be fucking loser sites *cough*daily radar*cough* love to hop on the band wagon of "whats hip" and just totally smear a game, now all be it, daikatana is no amazing game, but its better than average, i mean really people.. now it was fun joking about the game and such before it came out, but when it came out, few sites did what everybody should have done, they put the jokes aside and reviewed the game as fairly as they could... they didn't pull a daily radar and try and look fucking cool like so many did and just trash the game after playing it for no more than what had to be 20 minutes. not to mention, daily radar's SAD ASS attempt at being funny in that article was just un-fucking believable, it was a years worth of jokes you've heard over and over again with a wanna be little girl loser spin on it by some 40 year old fucking moron trying to figure out whats 'hip'. now if you didn't like the game, cool, but dont totally trash it and just make an ass of yourself in the process, just because you didn't like it doesn't mean others wont, and dont try and deter people from buying it or even trying it for themselves (which I've seen done many times) like your doing some public fucking service, and most of the time these people haven't even played the game for more than an hour let alone at all... bah well, i didn't like the game a whole lot, i thought the level design was kinda neat, the worlds were indeed vibrant and alive, and some aspects of gameplay were fairly innovative, but not that side kicks thing, that was just taking what half life played around with a step farther, but kudos anyway, play the game and decide if you like it for yourself, dont let some worthless fuckin lackey decide for you.. i mean d/l the latest demo and see whatcha think, dont listen to some idiot ...

And you know what? I don't think that any one of those 5 servers is in the USA. My ping is no lower then 220 on any of the 5 servers. And that's using a cable modem too.

Heh...I sure feel sorry for all those dillwads that pre-ordered Daikatana for 50 bucks...you can get it now for 29 at the local slop shop. Daikatana took four years to make and will be forgotten in three. Why can't Romero move aside and let the pros take the reins?

Ha! The market has spoken. Daikatana currently owns UT and Q3. Heh... one thing that I found interesting was how quickly Q3 dropped off the sales charts.

Just goes to show that the loudest mouths (multiplayer fanatics) are not the largest consumers (and are probably the most likely to be warezing it anyway). Q3A was a bad idea all along. They're on the right track going back to SP.

daikatana is selling better than quake3, unreal tournament, and half-life!!! :)

I can't believe all you fucking dumbasses who are buying this game. The demo made me want to wretch and bathe in shit to clean of the smell it left.

As others have said, most of these reviews are bogus. Notice how all of the "big" sponsored sites gave Daikatana scores like 3 out of 10 (gamecenter, cgo, gamespot), while all of the little, less-known sites (actiontrip? gamefan? speedy3d?) gave it far more respectible scores of 7 or 8. Very interesting...

Daikatana does NOT deserve the really low marks some give it. It's only crime (as a game), is that it's not that good. It's not revolutionary or anything like that, and so it doesn't deserve really high marks from anyone, but it is a solid game with entertaining elements. I think a score of 70% is just about dead on.

I still think it's pretty funny that everyone is bagging on DK because of the retro gameplay, while they are simultaneously saying that Doom3 will rock because of the retro gameplay.

BTW... I don't know where Gamespot gets 4.6... Can't be an average, because that comes out to 5.4

But, hey, Daikatana doesn't have slow, puzzle based gameplay... Oooohh.. Pan it!

What I've seen is fun, if you are in the mood for a straight forward, fast-paced shooter.

Also, it seems that the reviewers had a hell of a lot of problems with the game's stability. I've had NONE. I ran into a grand total of two bugs that made me redo levels. I've had none of the playability problems with the sidekick. So far they haven't died hideously from doors, killed me, or decided to suicide off ledges.

From what I can see the game's rating depends mostly on:
a) Whether the reviewer just hates romero and doesn't even give the game a chance.
b) Whether the reviewer really wanted a game like half-life or SS2 and is bitter because it is a fast-paced, old school shooter
c) They had a lot of stability problems. This seems to be a crapshoot, based on the presence of a voodoo2, voodoo3, windows2000, or just a system so borked by dll-hell that it's begging for instability.

Is it the best game in three years? No.
Will I play it for anything other than DM now that I finished? Nope. Then again, Quake3 is the only game that I still play in SP, after I beat it.
Unless you feel the need to bag on Romero, this game wasn't bad. It was fun, fast paced, and tried to do some very innovative things, but fell short of truly making them click.

rating daikatana is like being in the jury of the oj trial. it's hard to find anyone who has not been swayed by the HUGE media overhyping of it. and um..that's all i have to say
