Watch id's John Carmack talk Rage in QuakeCon keynote address

In his annual QuakeCon keynote, id Software's John Carmack talks about the long development process that's gone into the nearly complete Rage coming out this fall.

At QuakeCon 2011, John Carmack, co-founder of id Software and perhaps better known as the programming mastermind behind its game engines, delivered his annual keynote address. With the game nearly finished and playable on the show floor, he focused his attention on Rage. Calling the game, "the most enjoyable id game, from my perspective, that we've ever made," Carmack went into some details about the long road its development took.

Carmack also talks about developing the game for multiple platforms, and some of the considerations that had to be made for consoles that are sure to rankle PC players. He takes questions in the later part of the address but don't get hopes up; another year passes without anything new on Doom 4.

Any idea if they plan on releasing the Q&A session? It's a good 2.5 more hours of content :(

Was there a Q&A session and did they get that on video also?

Yes - it was completely cut from this video , i do not know yet but the company filming it is the cause - reportedly they said some "size constraints" .... it's a joke basically.

That was bollocks; why did they do this? It's not that difficult; and it's something people really want.

The Q&A session was like two hours long. It's entirely possible that they couldn't handle the load of people watching it? Dunno.

John Carmack pushing "quality software engineering" doesn't surprise me. But it was sobering to hear him talk about how much his personal work has benefited. Being totally frank about his measured and documented shortcomings, and just accepting it and taking the steps to keep improving.

sweet mother baby jesus i thought it was never going to be Mattc0m reported some issues ... it was going pre-producing to cut some controversial stuff out apparently. (criticism likely)
