The response to Bethesda's Brink has been mixed, with passionate reactions for and against the game. Starting right now, you'll be able to decide for yourself, as Brink will be free to play this weekend on Steam. The entire game will be available free to play until Sunday, August 7th, at 1PM Pacific.

Now is a particularly good time to jump on the bandwagon, if you decide you like the game. Not only is the game on sale, but the first DLC pack-- --is available for free, for a limited time only.

This game seems like an advanced counter-strike, which I don't find fun.

If your PC is up to it, give this game a shot. AIM for the head and burst fire, throw plenty of grenades, and get involved with the objectives.

I share sentiments similar to this one. They won't burn me for another $10 bucks.

This game gets people seriously worked up. Give it a few hours, it's pretty solid now and there's some intense matches going on right now.

I think it's reached Far Cry 2 levels of polarization.

          The game is just bad.

They took all the terrible aspects of TF2 and CoD and combined them into one huge pile of awful.

Why does FRAPS say i'm getting 50ish FPS on some ugly graphics but my eye says its 30fps. I don't wanna sound like "that guy". But jeez this looks like shit.

I'm finding the movement odd. Sometimes seem to stick to nearby obstacles, but if you try to parkour around them, it throws you unpredictably past them. Sometimes you can climb on top, other times it catapults you off the far side.

Movement is a bit frustratingly slow, especially if you hit the bug where you wind up with heavy movement while playing as a normal build. Seem to be some glitches with adjusting your character.

I wish they handled unlocks/multiple characters a bit differently. Having to start over to tinker with a voice choice you discover later annoys you is irritating. (Voice actor credit is nice there, but not terribly useful for picking a voice.)

Seem to be an awful lot of bugs, winning a mission (prevent agent from escaping) and... enemy wins anyways because agent escaped? Uh...

And then there's my characters lips, which randomly botox up and then shrink to slits. Happens on others ingame, but most noticable during appearance adjustment during breathe animations. Some kind of weird geometry LOD glitch?

I'm hearing weird rumors about co-op not being possible if the host is higher rank than you. If you are playing with a friend who has firewall trouble, and use wrong character, you can't host for him until he catches up separately? But if he doesn't have firewall trouble, he could host?

Also, given game seems to award individual XP, if you are better at headshots or he plays in a way the XP system doesn't reward, you could outstrip him and not be able to host? Argh.

There's some things that are really nice about it, I love the realism/cartoon caricature style, even if the results are a bit disturbing on some of the faces. Feel of many of the automatic weapons is nice; accuracy/stability tradeoffs are particularly interesting. Unfortunately, tradeoffs seem to make a fair number of the weapons rather weak compared to the better ones.

Wow, co-op is a MESS. Even when set to allow your rank or higher, can't join. Lower rank is always blocked, higher seems to be regardless of setting. Good luck maintaining exactly identical advancement with individual advancement.

And getting it through a firewall is a mess, no upnp support makes things too much of a headache for more casual users. And none of the brink guides mention also needing steam ports (many of which people skip because they don't normally host games...).

It's a shame, there's a lot they got right, but the things they got wrong are gamebreaking.

I will try it, I got the DLC while it's free. I gotta get SOME value out of this turd. if people are still screaming for ammo every 5 seconds, if there's still invisible players, if the sound still cuts out, that's the end of it.

I did the 2 star challenges and got all ready to go, amidst a total fuckup of game performance.

it launched like BLOPS which was a straight console code dump. it barely worked on PC at all.

a group of friends had a server rented and everything. we had the perfect environment to have fun with brink. the issue is that brink totally let everyone down.

If you're getting low fps, try disabling Ambient Occlusion. Having it on kills your fps and it doesn't make much of a difference visually speaking.
