Mobile developer Zeptolab has announced that their sugary-sweet Cut the Rope (shown above), is getting a sequel. The official title hasn't been confirmed, but what is known is that Om Nom will return, and the game won't be called Cut the Rope 2.

Cut the Rope is a physics-based puzzle game for iOS and Android in which the player feeds candy to a bug-eyed green monster named Om Nom. Whereas Cut the Rope featured a number of differently-themed boxes, each containing dozens of levels, the sequel promises that Om Nom's new adventures will move beyond their typically cubic confines.

A couple of new images that accompany the announcement also reveal a new character, simply called "The Professor."

Cut the Rope has been a surprising success for publisher EA, having sold over three million copies so far. The art is crisp and cute, and the touch-screen gameplay, centered around finger-swipes and taps, packs a surprising amount of variety. The best part is that it's only a buck in both Android and iOS flavors.
