Ocarina of Time 3D sells one million

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has become the Nintendo 3DS' third million-selling title, having topped 1.08 million units so far.

[UPDATE] Ocarina of Time has sold a million, but it's not the first. A Nintendo financial document shows that the 3DS version of Super Street Fighter IV shipped 1 million units, and the combined SKUs of Nintendogs + cats sold 1 million units. Shacknews apologizes for the error.

[ORIGINAL STORY] If any 3DS game was going to crack a million first, it had to be Ocarina of Time 3D. Gamasutra reports that the game has hit 1.08 million unit sales worldwide. 270,000 were in Nintendo's home territory of Japan, while 810,000 were sold in the US and Europe combined.

The company reached 1 million 3DS units sold in Japan last month, making the attach rate somewhere lower than 27% depending on how sales have fared since then. Yesterday's price cut announcement was paired with the news of 830,000 units sold in the US, and Ocarina had a strong debut in Europe with a 20% attach rate at launch.

The 3DS is dropping to $169.99 on August 12, and anyone who purchases and registers on the 3DS eShop before that point will receive 20 downloadable games from the NES and GameBoy Advance eras.

Other standouts for Nintendo were Pokemon Black and White at 1.36 million sold between April and June, and Mario Kart Wii staying strong years after release at 1.22 million units sold in the first quarter.

Not surprised. My neighbor's kid bought a 3DS specifically for this game. After she beat it, I asked her if she plans on any more games. She told me its sitting on her bookself now collecting dust.

I think Nintendo put their eggs in the wrong basket with the 3DS. I think 3D just isn't a strong selling point, and it was foolish of them to choose something that doesn't even work with the touchscreen as the system's primary gimmick IMO. They needed a stronger showing to compete with smartphones and they didn't manage it.

Yeah, I'm not sure how else they would've innovated though, they jumped on a trend instead of trying to forge one and I don't think it's going to last as long as the DS has.

Specifically she collects different kinds of dust, and has decided to keep a pile on her Nintendo 3DS for the time being.

I can't speak on their situation, but living in a house that was built over 100 years ago, a month is plenty of time to collect dust.

Even if she's just waiting for Nintendo games to come out, they will come and it will be worth it.

People complain when Nintendo makes the best games for their systems, and now that there's a system where 3rd party games get a head start before Nintendo dominates what do people do? Complain that there aren't enough games. This is the time when 3rd parties should be putting out good games to pull in customers. Street Fighter sold well. Resident Evil: Mercenaries? Maybe, but I'm guessing not so much. And bundling shit like Pac Man & Galaga doesn't cut it if they want to sell games. Crap throw away mode mini games for $40 are not worth our time and Nintendo knows it. They talk about adding value to distinguish the games from phone games and what to the 3rd parties throw at us? Crap throw away mode mini games for $40. It's not going to cut it. So where does this put us? Nintendo carrying the system and everybody coming along for the ride. And people complaing that the only games that sell are Nintendo's.

Even if people just want the 3DS for Nintendo games, they will come and it will be worth it.

im quite intruiged about how the more abrupt art style in 3d would work. MM is a different beast. Also, in TOoT the sound was huge, do people play 3DS muted often? for shame if they do.

The game deserves whatever praise it gets.. it's a very good version of an already amazing game. If the system had launched with this for a lower price... they would have done MUCH better with the 3DS.
