Konami is aiming to go head-to-head against Electronic Arts with the upcoming release of Pro Evolution Soccer 12. The publisher has announced a September 27th release for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. This is the same day FIFA Soccer 12 is coming out.

PES 12 is also planned for release on Wii, PS2, and PSP. None of these versions have been dated yet.

Konami promises that PES will give players "total control," thanks to features like the Teammate Control system, which allows a single gamers to control two players at once. How does it work?

Teammate Control works in two ways; with users pressing the right analogue stick in the direction of the player they wish to control. Support play is offered in assisted mode wherein users prompt a second player to make a timed run to cut inside or receive a ball, while total control is afforded by the fully Manual mode which gives the user complete freedom of movement of the second player.

Sweet. For my money, this was both a better and more enjoyable futbol game than FIFA. (Just my opinion, I know it's a heated topic.)

As a lifelong footballer, I've always felt that the PES series (or at least key, excellent iterations in the series) felt much more like a futbol match than FIFA's gameplay did. I still feel that way so far.
