Duke Nukem parodies his competition in upcoming multiplayer DLC
by Xav de Matos, Jul 27, 2011 12:00am PDTDuke Nukem's reign over your free-time is far from over. Duke Nukem Forever publisher 2K Games has announced that Duke's first downloadable content will arrive this fall for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
The multiplayer-focused "Hail to the Icons Parody Pack" is set to feature three new game modes and four multiplayer maps, along with a few other bonuses. Want some more good news, Duke Nukem fans? First Access Club members that registered their membership prior to the game's launch will get the DLC free.
According to a press release from 2K Games, the add-on will feature three new modes: Freeze Tag, wherein teams work together to freeze and shatter their opponents; Hot Potato, where players battle to hold onto the babe the longest; and a "free-for-all Duke style" in Hail to the King. "Hail to the Icons" also includes new weapons for the game's multiplayer mode.
The DLC also features a few tongue-and-cheek shots at Duke's FPS competition in the form of four new maps, as 2K outlined in its release:
Call of Duke: Duke engages in modern combat in a war-torn city. Foes don’t stand a chance against the Duke when he spams the map with the N00b T00b.
Sandbox: Players take the role of mini-Duke in a giant sandbox with two bases at either end made out of children’s toys. This map features Sticky Bombs.
Inferno: Time machine engage! Duke does combat in a hellish landscape of lava and teleporters. Who turned on the 16-bit graphics, and more importantly, where did this DFG come from?
2Forts1Bridge: Hats? Duke doesn’t need no stinking hats. Give him a minigun and he’ll beat off all comers.
2K Games is giving fans in the area of its Novato, California, office a chance to play the content early. For more details, check out the information on the official press release.

Morningwood is a fantastic map for 1v1 and 2v2. The netcode is shit, though, so all the nerds with some skills and idea how to play properly get owned because they can't do their shit and I play on 0 ping :(
Hooray for lack of dedicated servers :(
