The HD remakes keep on coming. This time, Double Dragon II is getting the polygonal update. Double Dragon II: The Revenge is coming to Xbox Live Arcade later this year as Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons. It's being developed by Korean studio Barunson Interactive, makers of MMORPG Dragon Saga. (They really love their dragons...)

The "story" remains the same, but there are a whole slew of enhancements that extend beyond the visuals. There's a new combo system and a new special move to complement the cyclone kick: a "diving knee kick."

Just like the original game, Wander of the Dragons will support two-player co-op, however it's unclear if the game will support online play. In addition to co-op, there's a four-player versus mode that allows players to fight as Billy, Jimmy, Marian, and a number of enemies. Finally, there's a new survival mode, which has players attempting to survive for as long as possible against a continuous onslaught of enemies.

Although most of the stages are inspired by the original game, there are new sequences added to the remake. QTEs have been implemented into the helicopter stage, while an entirely new sequence plays out on top of a logging truck.

Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons will release on Xbox Live Arcade this September for 1200 Microsoft Points. Check out Co-Optimus for more screens and a trailer.

I guess they're not following it too closely if Marian is playable and alive in this one.

Man I loved the SHIT out of that game in the arcades, it took me AGES to beat it too. I'm not sure what the dip-switch settings are for that one but I could swear the one at my local arcade was set to play tougher if there were two players in the game. It sure as hell felt that way. Anyway, one day I stood up and determined to conquer Double Dragon 2 utterly. So I'm on the final stage, right up to the big shit itself, when this jackhole comes over, sees where I'm at in the game, says "you want some help?" and slips his quarter in before I get the chance to turn around and tell him to get bent.

Needless to say we got our cans kicked by the shadow warriors and I ran out of quarters. I wanted to do a Double Dragon on that guy just because I was doing so well before he got in on it.

Right! This game looks really nothing like double dragon. What's with the movement and action like 100% on crack! Nice try on the remake... Now remake NARC properly! Something worth while. This looks horrible!

A modern NARC game would have to pull no punches whatsoever. Police brutality would be the modus operandi for NARC2.

I'm pretty sure they made a NARC 2, and I'm pretty sure it was horrible.

It was removed from the marketplace because the publisher/developer that ported it went out of business. When that happened their license to sell it obviously lapsed as well. It is still downloadable but will be in demo mode only for those who have not purchased it previously.

I think this was a poor choice. The polygonal characters just make the gameplay look dated. If it was just a high-res version of the old game... it wouldn't looks so bad.

      garbage.

If they just did a HD remake it would be worth it, but this is like a totally different game.

Damn it looks awful and Double Dragon 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I wouldn't play this for free. Why is one of his arms half the size of this torso? Ha ha ha.

I might buy this if they give my Double Dragon XBLA game back that I bought 4 years ago. It's not on the Marketplace and there's no way I can ever get it again.

Are you able to look through your download history and redownload it that way?

No, it says it's there but when you try to download it it says unavailable. It's like they lost the rights to distribute Double Dragon I think, and since it was on my older Xbox I can't find a way to get it again.

Ugh. They really need to work on their body proportions. Even if they meant it as the game's style. It's just bad.

      I hate 3/4 angle games.

This would have been better left as a strict side-scroller with the updated graphics...
