Garry's Mod sells a million
by Andrew Yoon, Jul 26, 2011 4:15pm PDTCreating a physics sandbox seems to be one way to get video game riches. Garry's Mod, a popular "game" available on Steam, hit the one million sales mark over the weekend. Garry Newman, creator of the mod, described the accomplishment as "more than I could have ever expected or wished for!"
The milestone will be celebrated with a new update, Newman promises.
"I know this isn’t exactly Minecraft's 2.9 million," Newman says in the announcement post. Like Garry's Mod, Minecraft is a physics sandbox that has seen tremendous success while still in beta. "But this is a pretty big deal for me considering this all started off as a tiny tiny modification about 6 years ago."
Newman apparently was unprepared for million sales milestone, saying "I did plan to release a big secret update I’ve been working on when we hit 1mil. But it’s not ready – you guys beat me to it." Unfortunately, he did not elaborate on what that update will entail.
Garry's Mod is currently available for $9.99 on Steam.
