EA released a new trailer for Battlefield 3, focusing on the game's much anticipated multiplayer mode. Unfortunately, it's almost criminally short. The less-than-two-minute-long video takes footage from the game's rush mode in the "Operation Metro" map. In this scenario, an attacking squad must progress through the Parisian Metro, destroying objective after objective. You might get a peek at the various classes... but mostly, you'll notice how pretty the game is.

If that wasn't quite enough for you (and no one will blame you), Joystiq discovered a more complete compleation, showing off over five minutes of gameplay. Granted, as with all user-generated content on YouTube, the music may or may not be to your liking.

so when you're doing a melee kill, are you invulnerable until the animation is complete or what?

If they make vulnerable during it aswell as making you take the knife out, I will be one happy camper.... not in that sense of course.

I guess I just don't get the hate over the current melee kill mechanics. If I get knifed it's usually in the back and I didn't see it coming. Someone could have just shot me instead and I would have died just as easily.

That said, I wish Melee while holding a weapon was a pistol whip sort of attack, low damage but staggers someone interrupting their aim/reloading/firing so you can shoot them, or a squadmate can.

I know I'll get some flaming for this but I'm surprised how much it looked like CoD.

It's due to the nature of the map, more closed quarters combat. I would like to see the multiplayer gameplay on larger maps with jets plz kthnx.

I figure that's what they are doing.

The general feeling is that this is the year where Battlefield might overtake CoD, so they are making sure to point out to all the CoD fans that Battlefield delivers what they want. Show them fast paced urban maps and slowly start releasing videos of larger more open vehicle heavy maps as a "Your CoD can't do this!" angle.

All of us die hard battlefield fans are excited anyways and a few close quarters urban maps aren't going to dissuade us in any way. We know massive jet-fest 64 player maps are coming and we are going to get the game anyways.
