Batman: Arkham City to have downloadable 'episodes'

Batman: Arkham City will have downloadable episodes, according to Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy.

Batman: Arkham Asylum had some downloadable content in the form of challenge maps, but its sequel Arkham City is apparently taking the next step with story episodes. A ComicBooked interview (via CVG) brings word from none other than the voice of Batman himself, Kevin Conroy, at this year's San Diego Comic Con.

Asked about his plans for the future of Batman, Conroy replied: "The gaming now is a big, new thing. The thing about Arkham City is that it's going to be an ongoing game. You're going to be able to download future episodes of it, so it's going to be going on for quite a while. I've been recording it for a while. So that will continue."

By calling it "the gaming," Batman now sounds like my grandfather. At any rate, whatever these episodes are, they apparently require new recording sessions for Conroy. That's a promising sign that the episodes will have plots of their own -- either continuing the story of Arkham City, or telling other stories in that world.

Rocksteady and publisher Warner Bros recently revealed the rather nifty-looking Collector's Edition of the game to retail for $99.99. It will come out on October 18 alongside the standard retail package.

Let the bitching about how all DLC should be free begin... now.

I wasn't going to bitch about that, however, I am afraid that the story that ships with the game will be short, or at least incomplete, because of these episodes.

For now I will have faith in Rocksteady, but if anything it will probably be like the Assassin's Creed DLC, where the DLC feels tacked on and unnecessary.

These 'episodes' aren't likely to be bits that they decidedly left out of the story - these 'episodes' (and I can only speak from my opinion with the Borderlands and Fallout 3 DLC) are stories or ideas that were conceived too late in development to be included or are stories that simply didn't 'fit' with the main storyline.

Rocksteady delivered a goddamn-Batman fantastic game with Arkham Asylum and I'm fully behind them with Arkham City. Sign me up for more awesome shit, absotively.

As long as it's good and worth the price, I'm willing to pay.

When I think "episodes", I think of what Rockstar offers with GTA IV or L.A. Noire, so I'm pretty excited for this.

It would be so awesome to have a series of episodes that take you through Batman's entire roster of enemies. Ventriloquist, Clayface, etc. Yeahhhh

I think of Sin Episodes or Half Life EP3 and have really bad connections to them. I HATE that I wasted money on Sin Episodes.

As a huge fan of SiN, I'm with you there. The dissolution of Ritual still brings a bit of a tear to my eye.

      "Psychic Vibrations Alfred!"

That is probably my most favorite line from Kevin Conroy in TAS.

How dare you insult Kevin Conroy. You owe the man an apology. And he is Batman, so I'd suggest you get on your knees and cry and beg for forgiveness because while I don't think it'll do any good, it really can't hurt to try.
