Star Wars fans, you've had some tough times in recent years. There were the prequels, then that cartoon movie. And the zombie trooper book? We understand. But R2-D2 and C-3PO are still undeniably iconic, which may be why Microsoft chose to model an Xbox 360 after the famous droid-buddies, to be released this November alongside Kinect Star Wars. Microsoft's Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) shows off the slick new hardware.

The system itself is styled after R2-D2, complete with his coloring and blue paneling. The controller is inspired by his counterpart, C-3PO, and is fluent in six million forms of communication. The included Kinect device is a special edition white version to imply Stormtroopers.

It all makes for a pretty impressive package, but it comes at a premium. The package will cost you $449.99--a good deal more than you have to shell out for a standard Xbox 360 these days. However, there's quite a bit included in the box, in addition to the special edition console and controller:

  • Kinect Star Wars game
  • 320 GB Hard Drive
  • Xbox 360 Wired Headset
  • Kinect Adventures game
  • Exclusive downloadable content

If you're a Star Wars fan with almost five hundred bucks sitting around, you can pre-order it now from participating retailers.

Man this game is probably going to be garbage but that does look cool.

Dunno why it'd be garbage. It's an xbox 360 inside just like all the rest.

I think it looks ugly as sin, but I'm sure there are people that will love it.

They are saying the GAME is going to be garbage... not the branded console (which they like).

I don't think the price is really that high. Why? A XBOX 360 with 250 GB HD and Kinect is $399.99.

This is $499.99 but its a bigger hard drive (320 vs 250), two games vs 1 game, and the custom paid job and downloadable content. The price seems right in line to me.

Yeah I don't really know what Steve was trying to say? It's a shame it's a kinect only bundle, maybe?

Well, I was comparing the price to the lower-end Xbox 360s, so if you just want a 360 that plays 360 games, you can get one for much cheaper. If you want an *awesome* Xbox 360 with a bunch of stuff in the box, this seems pretty sweet.

It's too bad I own a 360 already. I can't see buying a whole new system, even if the Star Wars motif has a direct line to the joy centers of my brain.

So if it RROD's, does it make the Millenium Falcon "It's not my fault!" *jeeb-jeeb-jeeb* hyperspace noise?

I kid. I have two Xboxes and they are like family to me.

kotor2 was in 2004. holy shitfuck. who the fuck decides to cancel an IP franchise like that? someone that should be drawn, quartered, and then burned, that's who.

Well like they did with the Halo or whatever console looks like there'll be a larger HDD SKU within a year as well as a 320 GB HDD to be sold to replace the 250 GB.

They'll probably let the 250 GB stocks dwindle before unleashing the 320 GB model so there might be a fire sale of remaining 250 GB ones when the bigger one comes out.

It's too bad a they can't make a good game based on 2001:A Space Odyssey. A bundle with a console modeled after the HAL 9000(along with HAL's voice prompts) would be awesome and scary at the same time.
