Though it was leaked a few days ago, Sega has now officially confirmed Aliens: Infestation. The announcement confirms that the game is being developed by WayForward in collaboration with Gearbox Software, and it's set to release on the Nintendo DS this September.

The announcement calls it an "action-heavy side-scrolling exploration game," which makes it sound more Metroid than Contra -- a pretty good fit for the tone of the films. You'll be able to choose from 19 different marines with unique dialogue options, and go to environments like the Sulaco, the Derelict ship, and LV-426. And of course, you'll be using and upgrading weapons from the series.

"In contrast to our other Aliens title in the works at the moment, Aliens: Infestation delivers a game that focuses more on exploration of the expanded universe," said Sega West senior VP of marketing Gary Knight. "WayForward really put all their passion into making Aliens: Infestation the definitive Aliens experience that you can fit in your pocket."
