[Update - XdM] Dan Amrich has updated his blog to clarify that no PC beta is planned for Call of Duty Elite, the language that mentioned the service coming to PC was made in reference to Modern Warfare 3's fall release. We've also changed a reference in this story that noted Elite was a premium-only service, it is a "free" service that "will also have a premium membership option."

[Original Story - AO] Though beta testing for Activision's shooty subscription service Call of Duty Elite began last week on Xbox 360 and is spreading to PlayStation 3 later this summer, PC gamers will have to wait until fall to give it a whirl. The news comes via Activision's official blogger, Dan Amrich.

Still, it's good to hear that there will be a PC beta at all. Though Activision initially stated plans for the beta to hit PC too, it later updated its FAQ to state, "Currently, we do not plan to launch a version of the beta for the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops." Someone needs to update that again, then.

Call of Duty Elite will offer features including performance-tracking heat maps of all your games, custom leaderboards, video uploading, social features, and statistics, statistics, statistics galore. The service will be free with "a premium membership option" that is tied to elements not yet revealed in Modern Warfare 3.

CoD Duty Elite will launch alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 8. The beta uses Call of Duty: Black Ops. Two million or so Call of Duty players signed up for the CoD Elite beta and invites are going out slowly at first, "more or less in the order" of when players signed up.

This sounds a whole lot like HLStatsX for the Source engine games, combined with Source Film Maker. HLstatsX even went as far as pointing out where you spent your time serverwise and each MAP. Mine was grapeshot all over the place, but some players always sat in those sniper spots....

Use of the word 'spreading' in the OP makes this sound like an infectious disease.

Are you saying it's not like an infectious disease?

I got an e-mail saying I need to complete my registration. It wants me to setup a new account and I assume it will ask me for my XBOX info. However there is a field called "Forum Name". I've tried forum names from the Call of Duty website and ones that I made up but keep getting the following message

Invalid communityID. The communityID must be one of the values found in the lookup service.

Need help on what to put in this field as it won't let me complete the registration process until I put the right info in.
