Assassin's Creed 3DS game Lost Legacy canned

The Nintendo 3DS Assassin's Creed game has been canned, it's no surprise to hear, but its plot has ended up being recycled for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Revelations.

It's been a year now since Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy was quietly announced for Nintendo 3DS at the handheld's grand unveiling, and we've heard nary a peep from it since. It's no surprise, then, to hear that it's no longer in development. However, it hasn't died in vain.

"You may have heard of the game 'Lost Legacy' for the 3DS. It was announced, but that kind of morphed into this idea," Assassin's Creed Revelations lead writer Darby McDevitt told Joystiq. While Lost Legacy will never see the light of day, at least it provided the story for the franchise's next game.

"The story that was announced about Lost Legacy was that Ezio goes to Masyaf and investigates the holy land," McDevitt explained, which mirrors the ideas of Revelations.

Assassin's Creed Revelations is due to be released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 15, though it'd hardly be a first for the series if the PC edition ends up delayed.

Crap. I was hoping I would have a decent game to add to my 3DS collection that isn't a fighting game or Ocarina of Time.
