GameStop appoints Shane Kim to board of directors
by Steve Watts, Jul 12, 2011 10:45am PDTRetail giant GameStop announced today that it has appointed former Xbox executive Shane Kim to its board of directors. Kim spent fifteen years in the Interactive Entertainment Business division of Microsoft, and helped to bring key franchises to market like Halo and Gears of War. He was also part of the company's focus on the Xbox Live service. Kim retired from Microsoft in 2010, but has served advisory roles at various tech companies since.
"We are very excited to have Shane join our Board," said executive chairman Dan DeMatteo in the announcement. "His broad video game knowledge and business experience will bring valuable insight in supporting the advancement of GameStop's digital strategy."
As digital distribution gains prominence, GameStop has been making efforts to prepare itself for the shifting marketplace. The company appointed a digital distribution chief in 2009, and has been shoring up its own digital offerings.
