3DS video service dated for Europe; coming to North America 'later this summer'
by Xav de Matos, Jul 11, 2011 7:15pm PDTNintendo of Europe has announced that the 3DS video download service will launch in the region on July 13, Kotaku reports. Though the headline for the press release still appears on the official site, the press release has been pulled.
German site Ntower.de preserved the press release, which notes the service will offer region-specific content in both 2D and 3D. Japan currently has its own specialty video application for the 3DS.
It's unknown why the press release was pulled or if the announced date has been moved.
Nintendo of America tells Shacknews that a North America-specific video download service will launch "later this summer." A Nintendo of America representative told Shacknews:
Nintendo’s short-form video service that delivers special video content for Nintendo 3DS systems will launch in North America later this summer. In addition, Netflix members who have an unlimited plan starting at $7.99 a month and access to a broadband wireless Internet connection will soon be able to download a free Netflix application that allows them to watch movies and TV shows on their Nintendo 3DS systems at no extra charge. These services will add to the wealth of games and entertainment content currently available via the Nintendo eShop. For more information about Nintendo 3DS, visit http://www.nintendo.com/3ds."
