Civilization World public beta launches
by Xav de Matos, Jul 06, 2011 6:14pm PDTThe long-awaited, web-based version of the critically and commercially successful Civilization franchise is now available in a public beta beginning today. Sid Meier's Civilization World takes the franchise to the 'free to play' realm on the growing platform of Facebook social gaming.
The social version of the Civilization strategy franchise was first announced in 2009 under the name Civilization Network, before being renamed Civilization World in early 2011.
The game borrows various elements from other games in the Civilization franchise, including a cartoonish graphic style reminiscent of 2008's console title Civilization Revolution. According to legendary game designer Sid Meier, Civilization World will offer "everything you enjoy in Civ in a fully persistent environment - you can play as much as you like, whenever you like, and it’ll be free to play."
A free to play, never-ending stream of Civilization? This does not bode well for our productivity at work. Visit the Civ World Facebook page for more details.
