Fallout: New Vegas gets major patch in advance of 'Old World Blues' DLC

Fallout: New Vegas gets a massive patch including over 100 fixes and optimizations in advance of the 'Old World Blues' DLC pack due on July 19.

Glitches plagued Fallout: New Vegas when it came out all the way back in October of last year, making patches all but a certainty for the game. Even so, it's still surprising to see such a massive patch as the one detailed in this post on the Bethesda Blog, nine months after the game's initial release.

It's a meaty one too, with significant updates coming across all platforms--Xbox 360, PS3, and PC--that include a new save feature that creates a point for single save players to play DLC without creating a new game and "massive world optimizations in major areas for better stability/performance with multiple DLCs installed." The full list of changes numbers well over 100 and includes many entries for fixed and optimized issues.

The patch precedes the upcoming third DLC pack, "Old World Blues," due to arrive on July 19. In it, players get to see how some of the mutated creatures came to be as the Courier gets trapped in a laboratory where pre-war experiments took place. For a look at what to expect, check out these brand new screens from the expansion.

I guess I'll wait for this to release on Steam before starting New Vegas!

Fixed exploit where player could get infinite XP for punching Big Sal’s corpse. Gotta love a game where you can have an issue like this.

There was a keypad in Deus Ex that did the same thing. You could keep punching in the code over and over again and get XP for it.

There was a better bug after that thing you had to do in the underwater base. You march back up and the guy gives you one of those augmentation egg thingys as a reward. If your inventory is full, he just drops it on the ground. You can keep talking to him, collect as many eggs as you want and max yourself out completely.

Bugs happen, but I will say that punching something a corpse for XP sounds hilarious.

I wasn't being sarcastic, that's exactly what I meant. The guy being named Big Sal just makes it funnier.

I LEFT MY HEART IN NEW VEGAS SUBTHREAD

Are the current New Vegas DLC options worth getting? Is it best to play them during the main campaign or after you finish?

What's the best way to make mad cash? I just got to New Vegas (somewhere around level 16 I think) and I only have like 5K in caps to my name. I played some BlackJack but immediately lost 500caps. I suck at Black Jack, or the dealer cheats. Take your pick. I need to up my luck. I know that you can get permanent buffs in Vegas, but they cost money. Also, those Van Graff guys have really good pew-pew lasers. However, those are expensive.

Also, finding that sexbot was a pain the ass.

Once you finish the main campaign, the game ends, so, you'd rather do it before :p

I think it's worse if you take the "No Gods No Masters" route. >:(

It was a very deliberate decision. The game has a number of variable endings that are all satisfyingly detailed., and it would really weaken the narrative if they reworked everything so you can continue to roam around doing fetch quests and looting caves after you've played your part in the grander story.

Go play caravan. You can get crazy rich with that and it isn't entirely dependent on luck.

I have sort of ignored Caravan for most of the game. I need to learn how to play it I guess.

I got both DLCs yesterday when they were 70% off. So far, Honest Hearts is kind of annoying to get around in, the story is decent enough, and it's extremely crashy. I've had twice as many crashes in 4 hours of Honest Hearts as 100 hours of New Vegas. I'd buy it again for $3. Dunno about $10.

Does this break stuff later? I did some bodyguard work for them, and now they want me to do something else for them. I figure if I exhaust all their quests and don't have much money for all their shiny toys I just walk in guns blazing and burn their whole house down.

you'll go nuts trying to do every quest in the game plus there's so many you won't feel like doing them all anyways

this is my problem right now... I want to do all the quests and explore every territory... but I'm maxed out now, have lots of caps, and i'm idolized by almost everybody so aside from achievements, some of the quests are becoming meaningless to me

dude i'm rolling in caps right now and i haven't really done anything to purposely get rich... just sell everything you pick up... mind you, i'm level 30 so i don't know if that helps. Also, to win at the casino games (consistently) you need a really high luck level

Did you know gambling is modified by your Luck stat?

I always go high Luck builds since Fallout 1. If you can manage 10 luck with some gear, go play slots. Load up your gear and go play, with 10 luck I was able to hit a jackpot >20,000 caps at each casino spending maybe 10-15 minutes at each, tops.

It makes the most money by far and you can go well above the "ban limit" of casinos.

Nice, I guess I bought the game in good time. I just picked it up on Steam this past weekend for $15! It was a great deal I couldn't let go.

I bought it there yesterday for 10 bucks (PC since it's steamworks) and saves me the time to download it with my crappy internet atm.
