The Sonic Generations demo released yesterday supposedly contains files that reference all the stages in the final game. A member of the Sonic Retro forums (via Game Informer) posted a chronological list of the levels that will apparently appear in the upcoming game:

  • Green Hill Zone
  • Chemical Plant Zone
  • Sky Sanctuary Zone
  • Speed Highway
  • City Escape
  • Seaside Hill
  • Crisis City
  • Rooftop Run
  • Planet Wisp

According to the leak, plans for DLC are already referenced in the demo, with Casino Night Zone will be a pinball stage exclusive for those that pre-order the game.

While these details are unconfirmed by Sega, their legitimacy is only further strengthened by Sega's demand to pull it off the site. Already, some Sonic fans are outraged at the omission of certain classic stages, with Ice Cap Zone being one of the most requested.

It's possible that the stages omitted for the console version of the game may be found in the 3DS adaptation of Sonic Generations. While the two games share the same name and same premise--the ability to play as "old" and "new" Sonic--the portable title will apparently have entirely different levels, according to a report by Andriasang. With the exception of Green Hill Zone, the two games draw from different sources: the console games from classic console titles, while the 3DS game adapts previous handheld stages. In addition, the 3DS will support two player competitive play over wi-fi. It seems as though real Sonic fans will have to play both versions of the game to get the complete experience.
