Gears of War 3 Horde 2.0 mode explained

The new barriers, static defences, and stompy robot mayhem of Gears of War 3's revamped Horde survival mode are demonstrated in a new 'briefing' trailer.

A new Gears of War 3 trailer has been issued to explain the revamped 'Horde 2.0' survival mode in the third instalment of Epic's action-crouching simulator. To help in the struggle against the waves of Locust and new Lambent forces, Horde 2.0 will let players construct barriers to slow advances, static defenses to lay down extra fire, turrets for heavy firepower, and stompy Silverback mech suits to, well, play around in stompy mech suits.

Horde purists displeased with the addition of construction and battlesuits will need to find a workaround for Gears 3. Epic's Cliff Bleszinski explained to us at E3, "Just go ahead and hit eject on your Xbox. Put in Gears of War 2. Horde still works there."

Gears of War 3 is headed exclusively to Xbox 360 on September 20. It'll be available in several premium editions and a snazzy red-on-black custom console bundle.

Nice fresh mechanics to keep that mode new. I think until you play it you can't knock it.

And honestly, most horde maps turned into "hunker down here, plant shields to slow them down", so it looks like they just looked at how people were playing GoW2 horde and built upon that.

Assuming there are some decent maps that looks pretty damn fun.

Silverback is in the campaign and in Horde. Don't believe it's in competitive multiplayer.
