Halo Anniversary to have Kinect support [Update]

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has revealed that Halo Anniversary will use Kinect. Exactly how it will use the device is still a mystery.

[Update] To put minds at ease, Microsoft has issued a clarification:

Just to let everybody know, the Kinect features we're exploring with Halo: Anniversary are optional and won't affect your core gameplay experience. Our mission, from day one, has been to deliver a faithful recreation of the original game, and we remain dedicated to seeing that through to completion.

[Original Story] Microsoft is making a push to include Kinect support in core games this year, and that apparently includes their remastered version of an old favorite. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will use Kinect according to Microsoft Game Studios general manager Phil Spencer.

"As a first party, we believe that Kinect will be important to all genres of games, be it racing games with Forza, combat games like Ryse -- even games like Halo Anniversary has Kinect integration," Spencer said in an interview with GameSpot.

Spencer didn't mention exactly how Halo Anniversary will work with Kinect. The game doesn't have a squad to command like Mass Effect 3, so it's anyone's guess how the device will be used. That means until Microsoft officially dispels it, you can at least hope for a Cortana make-out mini-game. Weirdos.

It'll promote the Kinects ability to be useless in a game like Halo.

Combine head tracking with a hd lcd visor and then you might have something worth getting excited over.

Probably one of the best uses for the Kinect, however I imagine that most people already sit too far away from their HDTV to take advantage of it.

ie: You have a 42" 16:9 hdtv. You should be seated like 5' from it. I wouldn't be surprised if most people are 7' - 12' from it.

i'm sure it will be totally optional and not really affect the core experience for gamepad users

Why not - at this point everything else about the game is a known quantity, why not spend some time experimenting with an optional feature.
