Battlefield 3 demoed on PS3

DICE Executive producer Patrick Bach previously said that the Battlefield 3 team is "focusing on PC first, and then we fiddle with it to fit it onto consoles." Well, now we can see what the fiddling looks like.

As part of Video Game Week on NBC's Late Night program, Jimmy Fallon debuted the first-ever footage of Battlefield 3 running on a console. Played on a PS3, the console version appears to maintain much of the look of the lead version. It looks terrific for years-old hardware, and will certainly be more than "good enough" visually when it releases. But let's not forget that DICE's Karl Magnus Troedsson told us that "now it's time to give some extra love to the PC community."

  As I said in the news article on Planet Battlefield, we have been spoiled after months of only seeing the PC footage. The console version of BF3 looks like the console version of BF3. Maybe I'll build a PC in October... *gulp*

  So Ill take it Shackers don't care about the origin exclusive dilemma, because my god you would swear that EA is going to eat Activisions shorts on the Steam forums. (which its good if Shackers don't, im starting to not be able to stand steam and would like to see some competition.)

      Not that I hate, just having my account hacked made me realize that maybe putting all eggs in one basket is not a good thing, and with every Steam client update, it seems to be getting slower for me. Plus like I said, competition should, i hope, only make things better.

        I'm all for competition, but cut the exclusive crap... if Origin is seriously better I'd buy it on that platform, but currently it doesn't even come close to touching what Steam does.

        Is it even possible to make a service "seriously better" than Steam? It seems like any issues people have with it are pretty minor, and even if they made a service that addresses all of those, it wouldn't be enough to pull people away from a service they've already built substantial libraries with.

        I wouldn't say the issues are all "entirely minor" and I think that Impulse is getting there, though not that they've been sold, who knows where that service will end up. I find myself in agreement with Soundcreepy - I also just recently had my Steam account hacked (supposedly - I suspect it wasn't really hacked but that my use of a VPN while here in the Middle East caused a red flag or something) and their customer service is a joke. No phone # to call and my entire account locked out. Ridiculous. Furthermore, according to their ludicrous EULA, they don't have to inform you why your account may have been suspended. Are you kidding me? What a joke.
        
        If I could move all these games somewhere else, I would, immediately. Lucky for me I still have purchased most of my games in hardcopy.
        
        No, Steam isn't even remotely perfect, Haxim. Not by a long-shot.

        Even if they are, you're still not buying it there, ergo Origin won't be seeing that revenue and if enough people avoid buying on Origin then EA will take note.

    As far as I can tell Origin installs the game to your PC, but you don't have to have Origin running to play it (This is how it is with me for Dragon Age 2 anyway). So if I have to buy it through Origin and run it as a non-steam game that doesn't really bother me.
    
    I'd prefer it on Steam, but lets face it, while everyone tries to get a pice of the digital distribution pie we'll probably see a whole lot of platforms with exclusives. I'm hoping we get to a point where all digital distribution platforms sell all games (You know, like retail shops do) and they try to lure customers with better features, prices and support rather than exclusives.

    I care about it, but it's not a dealbreaker. I'll likely buy it retail in order to avoid Origin (if they don't sell it on Steam) but if for some reason I have to buy it via Origin then so be it.

      well, as far as I can tell even if you go retail you need to have Origin installed (for patches and shit) but Origin doesn't need to be running.

        EA gets a smaller slice than if you buy on Origin. For EA, the slice they're missing out on is pretty big, enough to get them to try to force Origin on everyone.

        Correction - EA wants all the money, they don't want to pay a licensing fee to Steam/Valve. Going Steamworks won't achieve what they want.

      I don't get this, but, Alice was released on steam, and I believe anything on Origin will just be timed exclusives anyways.

  It does look noticably less good than the PC version (smoke, particle effects, filters and post processing), but still better than i thought. I suspect they made as many sacrifices as necessary to get destruction working properly.

    I can live with the graphics not being as good. That's the trade off for console gaming. But I'm glad the destruction is the same, that was a crucial point for me too.
    
    Game looks sick, can't wait!
