Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation DLC out June 28

After word of new Call of Duty: Black Ops downloadable content leaked out earlier this week, publisher Activision today formally announced it as the 'Annihilation' pack.

Annihilation will add five new maps, with 'Hangar 18,' 'Drive-In,' 'Silo,' and 'Hazard' for the regular multiplayer modes. Zombies mode takes a trip to 'Shangri-La,' which is described by Treyarch head Mark Lamia as "an exotic and mysterious map filled with deadly traps, dark secrets and innovative gameplay that will challenge even the most daring Zombie hunters."

As per Microsoft and Activision's exclusivity arrangement, it'll be released first for Xbox 360, on June 28. There's no word on when PC and PlayStation 3 editions will launch, but the last two Cod Blops DLC packs hit other platforms roughly a month later. Annihilation's price hasn't been confirmed yet either, but we can most probably expect it to be the regulation $15 (1200 Microsoft Points).

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 expected on November 8, this may be the last new content for Cod Blops.

did they do it right though? the majority of the maps (if not all?) were just retooled maps from what was shipped with the game. anything new was 15 bucks like onslaught or whatever it was called and BFV

I'm not delusional and I'm not going to be drawn into a fucking DLC argument. I can understand 15 dollars for a decent sized singleplayer DLC, but these map packs are a fucking rip off plain and simple if it was 5 bucks or less sure I can understand but 15 dollars for 5 maps? seriously?...really? Yeah yeah I know if I don't like it then don't buy I get it but this RIP OFF is turning into the norm which is what really sucks ass.

It's just amusing for people who came from the PC space since a lot of titles from there come with such excellent free DLC.

At least they're getting updates. New content is the life-blood of online games.

Listen, it all depends. For me its HIGH value for money, and I dont mind 3 of the maps. Just the zombis map is what I want. I know I will play for endless hours providing me more enjoyment than many full AAA titles. So I am sooo looking forward for June 28 to make my VISA to make ding-ding. Probably it doesnt have appeal for many of you - just dont buy it.

I was just explaining the other side, why it is found amusing to people who are used to getting that in a different way.

I came from the PC space and i completely understand the new practice. "a lot of titles" do not get free DLC, valve games get free DLC.

Devs used to make expansion packs, but now they make DLC that is released incrementally instead of in one package that probably would have cost the same.

and the amusement/shock and awe has run its course. this is how it is going to be from here on out. a few awesome devs like Valve and blizzard (to a lesser extent) will continue to pump out free content, but most others will not.

there are very few popular triple a titles with free DLC. indie devs and games that release some skins here and there for free are not the same as full blown content/map packs

I like how you restrict it to being triple AAA titles. I think most of the Indy ones are great. Minecraft has some very interesting ones, like the city builder one that turns the entire game into an RPG with towns that grow and build themselves up.

There's Torchlight 2 and Skyrim, both to be huge releases with great mod communities.
