Fight fans, rejoice! Publishing hero Atlus has announced during E3 that it's bringing The King of Fighters XIII, the latest in SNK Playmore's long-running 2D fighting series, to North America this holiday season for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Atlus boasts that KoF XIII is "the HD entry in the series that fans have been waiting for." You can expect the return of "fan favourite" fighters Mai, K', and Vice, "vastly improved network functionality," a less-restricted camera perspective, characters standing out better from the backgrounds, new super moves, and more.

"We are excited to work with Atlus to bring The King of Fighters XIII to North America," SNK Playmore president Ryo Mizufune said in the announcement. "Fans have waited patiently for an HD iteration in the series that could live up to the proud tradition of classics like KOF '98. We view KOF XIII as an opportunity to deliver a high definition KOF game that meets and exceeds fan expectations. We have worked very hard to listen to all of their concerns and suggestions, to incorporate all of their feedback and ideas, and we hope that XIII becomes one of their favorite games in the series."

KoF XIII launched for Japan in July 2010. The previous game in the series, released in 2009, was brought westward by Ignition.

KOF12 was horrible. All vids of KOF13 show broken gameplay and at least 2-3 chars everyone has on their team because they are way powerful.

I hope someday SNK will do a hi-res 2D game of Samurai Shodown like this. Maybe model its gameplay after SS5 Special or SS2 with some neat twists either way. I would pay 60 bucks for that.

agreed, SamSho is by far the best series SNK has made imo (although the last
        ones were pretty meh)

I thought Sam Sho V Special was pretty great.

SNK is dead. SNK Playmore is like Limp Bizkit buying the rights to the Beatles and then releasing new Beatles albums.

All the developers are different; there's really no point. That's why all the Metal Slugs after 3 are dogshit.
