PC gamers, rejoice! Amidst all the E3 hubbub and bustle, it's been confirmed that the PC edition of Duke Nukem Forever will support dedicated servers. Super-lady Elizabeth Tobey of publisher 2K Games dropped the news on its forums.

"This will be an unsupported features, but it will be there for those that want to use it," Tobey notes. She says it's intended for "experienced users" but you're an experienced user, aren't you? Unlike those console babbies, you built your Dukebox from scratch, with your own bare hands, in the snow, uphill both ways, in your toolshed, using scrap metal, forged in the heat of your own breath, isn't that right?

Developed by 3D Realms, Triptych Games, Piranha Games, and new franchise owner Gearbox Software, Duke Nukem Forever will launch in North America on June 14. Europeans, however, will be able to play from this Friday, June 10. Downloadable content has been confirmed for post-launch, with the first pack free for members of Duke's First Access Club.

If you'll be in Dallas, Texas this Saturday evening, Gearbox is inviting Dukemaniacs to the Happy Ending launch event. Along with Coyote Ugly ladies, there'll be music from The Crystal Method and, ah, DJ Jazzy Jeff. Space is limited, so you'll need to get in and request a ticket.

Sweet! That usually means their is built-in LAN support. Great! Another game that I could add to the list for LAN gaming...

Great. Now just fix the craptastic FOV and get rid of mouse acceleration.. oh and sort out the input lag too.

You're playing on the PC, do it yourself because Gearbox doesn't believe in PC support beyond making sure it runs...period.

I always 'Fix it' my self but I'm sick of having to. Especially with Unreal based engines and their shit configs never mind the fact they seem to be on some hell bent mission with encrypting them lately.

I initially put mouse precision to 10 thinking it would get rid of mouse acceleration and was wrong. I guess Gearbox figured when someone jacks up "precision", they'll pull a prank on them and make their mouse even more imprecise. Such an idiotic thing to do. I replayed the demo with mouse precision at 1 and sensitivity at 3 and it was much much better. The fact that Gearbox has a mouse acceleration option they call "precision" which actually works opposite of what the numbers suggest shows how detached they are from PC gaming. Why on earth would you provide a way for your players to fuck up their mouse feel/aim and get frustrated? Games are always run with 0 acceleration for true 1 to 1 speed/movement ratio, anything else and it gets erratic and frustrating.

My list of things that would make this game perfect for PCs:

        *Fixed mouse

*Ability to carry unlimited guns. That way I can bust out that shrink ray and have fun with it when I feel like messing around and not have to sacrifice some other nice gun.

*Either fixed FOV for 16:10 screens or ability to tweak it yourself.

*And lastly, ability to be able to run indefinitely like in Duke3d, prefferably with a toggle run option. That big boss fight clearly showed how out of shape Duke was when he had to cover big spaces in a hurry and it was annoying the shit out of me.

It really shouldn't be that hard or cost that much for them to tweak these things seperately for a PC version of the game. That's why I don't understand why they insist on having an exact carbon copy of the game for all platforms and refuse to tweak these gameplay elements for PCs. I dug the gameplay and humor and am a big Duke3d fan, but it's clearly as consolised as it can be and most certainly is not a PC game like they insist. At this point I've decided I will only buy it on big steam sale, or when it gets fixed properly for PC, or when a mod comes out that fixes these things (fat chance, not holding my breadth for gearbox to release SDK).

Sadly, no amount of .ini tweaking can fix a two weapon limit and "cowering behind cover" gameplay. They should have taken a cue from DN: Manhattan Project in regards to regen; Kill aliens = Gain Ego. That was the best compromise between hunting health kits vs full on sissy regen. Too bad it didn't make the cut.

My understanding is that Gearbox did all the multiplayer after they were given it to finish, so such things did exist!!!

That's too bad. I'm no admin myself, but I know many people would gladly host a server if there were linux binaries. Well, hirez was saying that he would host a Brink server if linux server files were available for it :(
