Battlefield 3 trailer: 8 minutes of PC gameplay

Fancy seeing eight minutes of straight gameplay footage from the PC edition of Battlefield 3? Of course you do. Come watch.

Do you fancy seeing more of Battlefield 3? If you're reading this, odds are that you probably do, so you'll be pleased with these eight minutes of straight gameplay footage from the PC edition. While you might wish it were the multiplayer being shown off in such great depth, this is nothing to sniff at.

In the demo, executive producer Patrick Bach takes controls of Marine Sgt. Miller for a tank battle and raid on the outskirts of Tehran in a mission named 'Thunder Run' from BF3's single-player campaign. Things explode, and good! Plus, unlike the previous gameplay trailer, it's uncut footage--no jumping to the 'exciting' bits here.

Battlefield 3 is headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 25.

i don't get the backlash..everyone here berates MW3 for being a 'movie on rails' experience where you really don't do much other than follow scripted events. This video show actual gameplay, and people are complaining that it isn't 'flashy enough'.

Agreed, I like it. It's not trying to be OMG-explosions, Michael Bay sort of thing. It's going for something different, at least in this section.

Looks like Michael Bay to me... A completely implausible setup with huge explosions.

Something like this shows much more about the game than the silly MW3 trailer, or even some of the short BF3 trailers which have been posted.

You get to see what the game is really like without having lots of bits spoiled so it's win/win.

I think this does a better job of pacing military conflicts than COD which seems to just push action so much they never give you a break. The slow parts of this make the action even stronger.

Also did anyone else notice how flat the tanks main gun shoots? Pretty huge difference from the massive arc of the BF:BC2 tank rounds.

Yeah, the build up to the actual fighting and then the lull between engagements really helps make it feel better.

Valve got this perfect with Left 4 Dead. You need a rest from combat otherwise it becomes monotonous, and the rest allows you to plan for the next bit and even get a bit nervous.

I don't get how people can be excited about MW3 after watching some of the BF3 stuff. Aren't any of the MW3 players concerned that they've only shown plot climaxes recycled from the other games? That the engine has barely changed, if at all, for like 3 years?

its not plot climaxes, the whole game is like that and thats how we like it

In regards to the ground combat, the Battlefield series have been pretty clunky until the Bad Company series made it great.

I don't get how people always bring up MW3 in BF3 threads. they are two completely different approaches to the military FPS genre.

Well, they are pretty much in direct competition, and the fact that EA/Dice has said straight out that "BF3 will be better than MW3", it's no surprise people are going to compare the two.

So far I think the MW SP Campaigns have been better. From the looks of things, BF3 might just change that. I hope it does, competition is a good thing.
