Blackwater announced for Kinect, based on PMC group
by Steve Watts, Jun 07, 2011 10:00pm PDTMicrosoft is pushing for more core experiences on the Kinect, and they're getting a little help on that front from Blacklight: Tango Down developer Zombie Studios. Publisher 505 Games announced Blackwater, a first-person shooter based on the controversial private military contractor. The group is now called Xe Services. The game is scheduled for release this fall.
The game lets you use the regular Xbox 360 controller or Kinect. The announcement references all the regular movements and shooting mechanics in Kinect form, but we're having a hard time picturing it. Luckily the company is allowing hands-on time on the E3 show floor.
The game tells a fictional story, but Zombie consulted former Blackwater team members in designing the combat scenarios. You'll be protecting a North African town from warlords.
"The Blackwater team is comprised of an amazing group of individuals and we're proud to work with them to create a video game that showcases their talent and courage," said 505 president Ian Howe in the announcement. "Being able to get the controller out of the player's hands with Kinect and have them on the ground and immersed in the experience will give them a glimpse of what it takes to be a member of an elite fighting force."
