During today's E3 press briefing, Nintendo detailed the new Mario Kart 3DS, and announced it will be released this holiday season. The brief glimpse showed off hang gliders for big jumps, and the karts going underwater with propellers. We also saw some customization options for picking body and wheel types for the karts.

The conference is still ongoing. Shacknews will update as more details become available.

Pretty much this. And it underlies the way the two companies approach handheld gaming in general. Personally, I like Nintendo's approach more. Sony's efforts have been technically impressive, but I much prefer my handheld games to be simple titles that I can play for 5-10 minutes and still have a good time.
