Ubisoft has finally revealed Far Cry 3, after first making mention of the game back in 2008.

For the first time since noting that it was in "preliminary stages" of development in 2008, Ubisoft has finally revealed Far Cry 3.

Today, during its press conference, Ubisoft Montreal took the stage to demo the next game in the franchise. The level begins with the playable character being captured by a group led by a madmen who explains the definition of insanity.

The demo shows off another lush jungle environment, a slew of enemies, and some gruesome melee kills. Far Cry 3 is scheduled to arrive in 2012 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Here's a low-res version of the demo:

I can't hear Far Cry two and not think about Idle Thumbs... then get sad about it not being around anymore... then remember that I probably should play the game at some point.

I thoroughly agree with you. It wasn't Crytek, and it wasn't even CryEngine, but what came out of it was more than what Crytek would have done. I mean, look at Crysis and Crysis 2... The same would have probably happened if Crytek did Far Cry 2. Not that Crysis 2 was BAD, I love it, it's just a far cry (bad pun, I know...) from what Crysis was.

A lot of people liked Far Cry 2. If they make a sequel that fixes the flaws that FC2 had and makes a dynamic world that changes based on what groups or people you help out, I'll totally buy a sequel. I just don't want the same game as FC2 but in a different setting and some prettier graphics.

not a troll, but how? It looked like the environment of Far Cry 1, with the crraaaaazy antagonist of Far Cry 2.. Other than that, it looks rote and repetative.

I don't know what it was that caught my attention, I didn't even recognise the quality of the graphics I just felt really immersed.

Just watched the preview and was impressed with the character animation on the main dude quite a bit. Good char animation - especially facial animation - is really quite rare in video games, usually having lots of dead eyes or way overanimated, unnatural mouths. Wasn't really happening in that trailer. Looked cool.

No, it's not gameplay, but for a pseudo-gameplay ...thing, the sales cues were pretty encouraging. I saw a lot of stealthing, I saw a lot of wide open environments that sure looked traversable. So I'm staying positive.

I'm hoping its still an open world like Far Cry 2...add the stuff they showed there with all the good stuff that made Far Cry 2 one of my favorite games of 2008 and that will make me cum all over myself!

Imagine a game that fixed all of Far Cry 2's flaws, but kept all the cool stuff. I'm not saying that will be this game...but I can always dream; can't I?

after watching the trailer, i know why, it looks like shit, about as far away from FC2 as possible: QTEs, scripted sequences, cutscenes, takedowns, COD-style damage indicators and fucking points popping up when you shoot dudes...no surprise, i guess, since Clint Hocking is long gone from Ubisoft, but I'm betting that Remo is seriously unimpressed

They should. In fact, after playing Brink, I don't think I'll be truly satisfied with a shooter hat doesn't capture motion at least as well as it does.

Brink is pretty damn fun. After playing a bit of BC2 and loving it I got back to Brink and it really offers something unique. It seems the general public enjoyed it more than the shack, i've yet to have trouble finding a low ping server with plenty of people.

whats happened this year that saying "shit" and "fuck" lost its taboo? The developers seem to be cramming it into every game as much as possible almost like headshots and decapitations of years past.

I wish Ubsoft would lose their hard on for highlighted objects. Just seems like intentional dumbing down and laziness to me. Glad Deus Ex: HR will allow it to toggle. Hopefully, this will too.

Looks no more enjoyable than a decent popcorn movie. I liked the first two for the most part...hell I bought 'em on a Steam sale...most likely play this as well.
