Microsoft announced a new initiative to add live streaming television on Xbox 360 at today's press briefing, and teased a video of the service being controlled through Kinect. Though specific partnerships weren't announced, the company promised more details on that in the coming months. The streaming is said to be coming with the fall update.

We heard rumors that the company was partnering with AT&T for the streaming TV, but no such partnership was confirmed today.

The conference is still underway. Shacknews will update this post as more information is made available.

Content is king. If ESPN (not ESPN3, they aren't the same) comes to the 360, I may have to own one.

ESPN is bigger than Netflix. They're never going to be a platform exclusive -- nobody has enough money to pay them for that privilege.

Who cares about exclusivity (although they would have de facto exclusivity due to the fact they are the only ones with TV capabilities), but they just need to have the content, not the content exclusivity.

You can get NBA on your laptop and smartphone live, so there's no exclusivity to live streaming.

You said platform exclusive, which assumes among video games system not all media everywhere. Also, who said anything about exclusivity?

ESPN's content isn't being streamed by anyone other than broadcasters. ESPN3 is a different beast and it doesn't cover what ESPN covers, so it's not really comparable.

Cable/Dish costs plenty of money. Live + 360 + whatever the cost for streaming could be cheaper and easier to deal with (for now).

through AT&T? so... the 360 becomes a U-Verse box without the DVR?

Is anyone else dissapointed by MS's conference? It seems like a Nintendo press conference back when the Wii launched. All this kinect stuff. Don't think the 360 is considered Hardcore anymore.

I'd kill for HBO on this, but I know it'll never happen.
