With E3 2011 only a few days away, publishers are hard at work filling our inboxes with trailers for upcoming titles. Namco Bandai has joined the fray, sending over a new trailer for Soul Calibur V featuring in-game footage.

Soul Calibur V was announced early last month, and is slated to arrive on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012. The game is also expected to feature 'guest-starring' characters (as it has in the past); however, Namco Bandai has been tight-lipped about the additions. Hopefully we'll hear more next week.

It looks like another fighting game series has added an "equalizer" feature. What ever happened to just getting bodied and having to learn how to play better?

That's like saying in poker that the better starting hand should always win. If you don't give people an opportunity to come back, your game design is bad.

People have the opportunity to come back. It's called play better and get a real adrenaline rush from a true come back and not have a cheap super x-ray/super move that requires no skill.

I love the new MK, but the X-ray just slows the game down and makes people with no skill win more.

They should've stopped at Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast.

Why? It's like the only fighting game that made 3d work. Also, it's way more fun street fighter, etc.

omgz sf is so good u hav liek these 2 special moves u can do woop

Soul Caliber has a combo list of like 60 special moves for each character. Knowing when to employ these moves gives the game a huge amount of depth and the fact you can actually move round in 3 dimensions and knock people off rather than linearly adds a level of strategy you just don't get with SF. From a hardcore gaming level it's much more difficult to master, and if you're playing casually with friends who don't know how to play properly it's far better than the button bash fest that is casual SF.

And casual soul caliber isn`t a button bash fest?

Well sure, casual SF is a buttom mash. But every 'casual' game is. I've clocked up over 300 hrs on SF4 alone and I can tell you for sure, there is a HECK of a lot of strategy going on when I play against good opponents.

In fact, I think most ppl would agree that out of all the fighters, SF is by far the MOST strategic, and the one least likely to have button mashers prevailing against good players.

I disagree, the level good players can reach in Soul Calibur makes them virtually untouchable to casual players.

The possibilities afforded by strong use of guard impact and the 8-way-run system essentially allows good players to be seemingly invincible. It's actually pretty hilarious how badly I can beat down casual players - if I play seriously, they can't land a single attack on me. (Of course, this is rather unsporting, I at least try to let them get some hits in so they don't feel too bad.)

Unfortunately, the online play in IV suffers from input lag that lessens the gap considerably - if it doesn't make skilled play outright impossible. My biggest hope and expectation for V is to see the net code replaced with something that doesn't suck. If they do that and improve on the create-a-fighter even further, it will be my favorite fighting game ever made.

I think they it's different tastes of sub-genres. Like Counter Strike and BF2. Neither one is really more strategic than the other because they have different playing fields, 2D vs 3D and aren't directly comparable.

However, my play style goes towards Soul Calibur simply cause there's less bullshit game mechanic exploiting or massive reliance on the FPS input or cornering them to the edge of the screen. Yes, I am terrible at SF.

SC2 was the best fighting game I've ever played. In other words, shut up you fuck, YOU'RE WRONG.

Damn. Don't tell me that you can absorb a hit without stun-lock. That blue-shimmer will be the downfall of this game. That's like fighting Shao Khan. He's the cheapest mother because he will absorb your hit and still come at you. And now they make every character have that ability in this game? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~
