Namco Bandai announced today that Dark Souls will be mocking your pain and misfortune in early October. The game will come to North America on October 4, and then in Europe on October 7. That gives you four full months to learn new stress coping techniques.

The company also released a new trailer today, in preparation for E3 next week. If that isn't enough Dark Souls detail for you, check out our recent preview of the game.

oh god. I am stupidly excited for this game. Seriously. I'm looking forward to this game more than any other game in years. I hope i'm not creating too high of expectations.

If your expectations are high, mindmann, then mine are climbing the mountain of hope right alongside them. I don't think we're being misled, though. The same team's developing the game, and they knew exactly what made Demon's Souls so special: the atmosphere, the finely honed difficulty, and the tremendous sense of accomplishment that came with beating a boss or, hell, making it a quarter of a way through any given level.

Yeah. Demon's souls was just so good. I'm worried that they'll try and run with any one thing that made it cool, and over do it. Part of the appeal was how streamlined the game was. There wasn't any unnecessary clutter. The trailers so far look really good, though. I will be very sad if they mess this one up some how. It can't be an easy game to make a sequel for.

I'm going PS3, because I played Demon's Souls on there and want it to feel familiar. There is one friend who I'd like to play with that only owns a 360 but other than that there's no compelling reason for me to get that version over the PS3.
