The 'grimdark' future of war is coming over all-arcade in Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, a twin-stick shooter announced today by publisher THQ. Developed at THQ's internal Digital Studios UK team, Kill Team is due on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in July. No word of a PC release, sorry.

Playing as one of four Space Marines classes--Sternguard Veteran, Techmarine, Vanguard Veteran or Librarian--players are sent to stop an Ork Kroozer from attacking a Forge World. It'll support two-player split-screen co-op, for you to bring a chapter buddy to the slaughter. Six different chapter skins are on offer, so you won't get stuck in a boring one like the Ultramarines.

As a bonus, completing the first Kill Team mission will unlock a Power Sword for you to wave around in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine's multiplayer.

a "Kill Team" is a squad of Deathwatch Space Marines. The Deathwatch is made up of SM's seconded from many chapters and it's purpose is to provide specially trained alien fighters, primary to the Inquisition (in older editions it was directly controlled by the Ordo Xenos, however recent publications have changed their relationship to more of a strong alliance). You may recall that Cyrus in DoW2 was once a member.

Deathwatch is not organized on Codex lines at all, which in tabletop means they have a very different force organization chart then other SM armies. This also made it the perfect setting for the recent pen-and-paper SM RPG (also called "Deathwatch").

Deathwatch SM's are purpose-trained for each mission to go against the hundreds if not thousands of misc. alien species threatening the Imperium across the galaxy, as well as taking on extremely dangerous missions against mankind's more traditional foes.

Wasn't there a Necromunda, or RPG resource where you would do sing squad-sized skirmishes called Kill Team?

I tried googling, but nothing shows up.
        It just sounds so familiar...

I don't see anything on Lexicanum, but that does sound familiar now that you mention it.

My memory of it is getting more detailed. I think it was an official mod of the main 40k ruleset. In my mind, I can picture two White Dwarf articles / missions about it. One was Imperial Gaurd vs Orks. (with the orks having some kind of infiltration skill, for that mission). The other was a Chaos SM squad vs Ultramarines.

Yeah, there is a game type where it was basically you had a squad called a kill team that was like 400 points or something and you moved them through a scenario. Mostly single player and a guy that ran the show and controlled the npcs.

Ah! Thanks. All these video game terms roll together after a while. Fire team, kill team, team kill, superdeathzap, all the same to me!

Any chance one of the Relic shackers can find out if this will eventually come to PC? I don't mind a staggered release, I just want it eventually. :)

It's fine on the 360. I'll get it when it comes out. I'm going to get two buddies of mine to get a 360 out east just because they are nuts about 40K. Then we can play co-op.

When I was reading your post for some reason I thought you said "Radio Shackers" that would be funny.
