Call of Duty: Black Ops PC free weekend incoming

A free multiplayer event on Steam this weekend will let all and sundry play Cod Blops' multiplayer side without paying a penny. Pre-loading has already begun.

Steam's gearing up for another of its famous 'free weekends,' this time granting full and free access to Call of Duty: Black Ops' multiplayer mode on PC to anyone who fancies it. If you've somehow manage to avoid the hugely successful series, whether through disinterest, frugality, or hate, here's your chance to give it a bash.

The free weekend will begin at 10am Pacific today and run until, one imagines, around the end of the weekend. You can pre-load Cod Blops now to have everything downloaded before it unlocks.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 now revealed and on its way, it's a fine time for publisher Activision to take advantage of the hype and get more people interested in the series with a free weekend. If it also helps shift a few more copies of Cod Blops before it's superseded, well, that'd be just dandy.

Well, it's good that they had a free multiplayer weekend, but I was talking to some friends just 2 days ago saying that "Steam or Treyarch should host a free weekend for the newest Zombie maps, and Multiplayer for at least a week or the weekend"

I know there's not a lot of love for COD here, but Black Ops multiplayer is really fun and fixed what I hated about MW2 multiplayer.

Easily the most considered and balanced yet, certainly.

Maybe this is a sign of a better Activision coming? Maybe? I hope? where the fuck is the half off?

whee! definitely going to give it a try, but for some reason I feel like $60 is too much? Seems kinda dumb as I'm pretty sure that's what I paid for SC2, Bad Company 2 and that's probably what Diablo 3 will cost.

60 is too much for just about any FPS game (SP portion) that has come out recently. Too damn short with a tacked on MP experience that promises to be "new and refreshing" yet its always the same gameplay since the days of Quake/CS. Old tired out boring ass shit. Damn I'm getting old and cranky.

I didn't like that game because it didn't allow me to apply camo to the undersides of my feet
