PlayStation Store returns with huge update

Sony's digital marketplace has at long last returned following the hack, with a huge amount of new content including demos for inFamous 2 and Red Faction: Armageddon.

At long last, the PlayStation Store has returned, six weeks after it was taken down in the wake of the PlayStation Network hack. Its return is celebrated with a massive burst of new content, helping Sony start catching up on the huge amount that should've been released during the downtime.

True to its plan of multiple Store updates per week, Sony says that the next batch of new releases will come this Friday. On top of that, "some special publishes"--whatever that means--are due after the weekend over E3 week; Sony urges "be sure to check back daily."

Unfortunately, the promised 'Welcome Back' free games and other goodies are not yet available. Sony explains that the pack's "currently in the final stages of testing and will be available to download soon."

New game releases in yesterday's mega-update include Sega Rally Online Arcade, Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, Star Raiders, and Red Johnson's Chronicles.

On the demo front, you can try out Red Faction Armageddon, LEGO Pirates of The Caribbean, MotorStorm Apocalypse, The Fight: Lights Out, Star Raiders, Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, and more. Sony also confirms in another post that the inFamous 2 demo is out now too.

As for downloadable content, there's Honest Hearts for Fallout: New Vegas, heaps of Rock Band 3 songs, and plenty of assorted other little things to buy.

PlayStation Plus users, meanwhile, get a few new freebies and the old offers have been extended.

As ever, the full update listing is on the PlayStation Blog.

Does the average PSN user knows about the Welcome back programme and do you think they'll be happy with what Sony is offering? I don't have a PS3 so all the information I've had is from Shack and some gaming podcasts (obviously including Weekend Confirmed) but generally people seem to be happy with the Welcome back plan, I know I would be if I could afford another console...

You have to have a PSN account created prior to the date their network got hacked in order to qualify for the free games. :(

I already have 550 matches played online on my XBox version of MK. Not trying to rub it in or anything, just saying.

        SUCKER!

It's been playable across PSN without requiring the pass since shortly after the network came back online.

My issue with that particular item, however, is the use of the code in the first place.

Keep trying, when I tried it I got an error and kept trying it finally worked, then the download and activation gave the error and when I kept trying it worked, in fact all my store browsing took a few tries to work last night.

Highly likely, the same group took over the PBS website a few days ago and on their twitter feed at the time they poked fun at Sony for not noticing they were still inside their systems.
