T3 Entertainment has announced that beta keys for the upcoming closed beta of Hellgate's free-to-play MMO revival are now being distributed.

Last week, HanbitSoft announced it would revive the Hellgate franchise in North America and turn the game into a free-to-play MMO. Today, developer T3 Entertainment has announced that keys for the upcoming closed beta are now available.

Keys are scarce; however, those interested in testing the reborn title can obtain it on Hellgate's official site. There are also a multitude of giveaways on a few select participating sites.

Hellgate was originally released as Hellgate: London [pictured above] for the PC in late 2007 from developer Flagship Studios. At launch, the game's online play was available for free and for a subscription, with the paid version featuring additional modes and abilities.

In 2008, Flagship shuttered and publisher Namco Bandai kept servers for the game online until early 2009. In January 2010, HanbitSoft acquired the intellectual property from Namco Bandai.

A free-to-play version of Hellgate is already available in South Korea.

wtf...it's saying me e-mail address in unavailable, which seems fairly unlikely since I've never registered on that T3Fun site.

I had the same problem. I sent T3Fun Global a nice email demanding them to open them up as I'm the sole owner of those email accounts and that any use of them on their site has been unauthorized by me.

I was this LAN back in 2007 and everyone gathered around this giant screen for a Gamer Trivia contest. They'd display an image from a game that's scrambled, or zoomed in, or play a sound or whatever. If you got it right, you own a sponsors' lanyard or a t-shirt or a water block. Usual LAN stuff.

Anyway, one of the rounds involved identifying flame throwers from various games. It started off with easy ones like TF2 and CoD then got to harder with stuff like Strife and Halloween Harry. The whole time, for all the rounds, everyone is getting the answers within a few seconds since if you've got 50 people together, someone is going to know it. Then they put up this image of a flame thrower burning a zombie from a modern game and the room went silent. No one said a damn thing for like a minute. Finally the hosts go, "It's Hellgate London" and everyone starts laughing 'cause we all realized how terrible a game must be to be that unpopular.

That is a pretty cool story. Thanks for pointing that out. I would have missed it otherwise.
