L.A. Noire title update launched

A title update for the crime thriller dropped over the weekend, updating it to version 1.00 with a handful of bug fixes and changes.

Detective Stone shoved at the station house doors and stumbled in. He slipped a cigarette between his lips and patted himself down as if hunting for matches--a little act he'd honed to avoid the fierce glare the duty sergeant tossed at him every morning. It worked, as far as he cared. Stone ambled along the gloomy corridor and into the video games office. Great, Stone thought, just what I need. His eyes had fallen on his rookie partner wearing a look like he'd just seen Santa Claus.

"Jimmy!" cried O'Brien, leaping to his feet. Stone screwed his eyes tight and pinched the bridge of his nose. "We got a break in the L.A. Noire case. Saturday morning, out of the blue, just like that, a title update drops. What's more," Nowak continued, spitting the words at Stone, "some mook wanders in off the street, saying he's found the patch notes just lying around. We weren't sure 'cause they're vague as all heck but he checks out clean."

L.A. Noire had only launched last week but already the natives were getting restless. Would this calm everyone down or rile them up? Stone didn't really care which, as long as something happened. The boozy flush drained from his razor-nicked face as he flicked through the notes.

  • Fixes for several in-game store issues including age-verification for DLC purchases

  • Fixes for minor gameplay bugs and graphical issues

  • Fixes for several minor plot/objective/conversation issues

  • Improvements in stat-tracking and Social-Club integration

"It'll have to do," Stone grunted. He had the answers. Now he just needed the questions, a match, and some god damned coffee.

I honestly am sorry for this post. I was quite bored. I'll make a donation to charity, if needs be.

No apology needed. In fact, I thinl you should do this for all future news posts.

Nothing to apologize for! I actually read this, as opposed to the tons of stories that are copy-pasted with nothing interesting added.

For a second there, I was sure I was on Rock Paper Shotgun. And that's a good thing.

Haha, I loved it. You should do news stories in the theme of the game like this more often.

Did they fix the bug where I press Doubt for good reason and then Cole says something retarded that instantly makes me regret it? At least I can back out from a Lie if the accusation doesn't make sense after all.

yeah that's a huge help. They should have made it more clear that you use doubt ONLY if you know they are lying but can't prove it. Doubt is not a 'maybe, but not sure' middle option that it seems like at first

It definitely is exactly that sometimes. Pretty often they'll tell you something completely true but leave out another detail, and you have to call Doubt to badger them for more information. And Lie can be like that too sometimes, like only after you press the Lie button does Phelps go on a tangent which causes the suspect to actually tell a lie you can disprove.

Lie should only be used if you know you have evidence. There is no grey area with lies. If you don't have evidence to back it up that is obvious evidence, don't accuse them of lying. It's just how the game works.

He goes on the tangent when you have proper evidence because it's the right answer.

I pretty much know all that, but sometimes it's just dumb. For example, in one of the later Homicide cases:

When talking to the necrophiliac, you bring up how he took her lipstick and he gives sort of a shady half-answer. I figured he was withholding something and chose Doubt. Then Phelps says something like "Admit it, you killed her and stole that lipstick, WHAT DID YOU WRITE ON HER BODY???" which makes no fucking sense because her body is right over there and nothing is written on it, get your act together Phelps.

I've had this complaint with Mass Effect before because it's annoying to take the conversation in a way you didn't intend because the prompt was too vague, but it's especially obnoxious in a game that's almost entirely about asking people the right questions.

I love the faces he makes when he tears into some lady out of nowhere on a doubt. "I THINK YOU FUCKED EVERYONE IN HOLLYWOOD AND DROWNED A BABY IN THE TOILET BITCH!!!!!! O.@"

yeah this is great... the facial stuff is really funny sometimes. But also, the responses for picking the wrong answer are just SO overboard!

what's the deal with the conversation right after you become a detective, there's something about talking to the DA about helping somebody?

I'm guessing that is some kind of DLC case they are talking about. Not sure if it's the extra ps3 one, or one of the preorder bonus ones.
