Arma 3 system requirements are commanding

One lingering question following the announcement of Arma 3 was "do we need military-grade hardware to run the game's new engine?" The system requirements are now available to help answer that question.

Yesterday, developer Bohemia Interactive announced it will continue the Arma series (A.K.A. Armed Assault) with Arma 3, coming exclusively to the PC in 2012.

With the announcement out of the way--and a few screens thrown out to whet appetite for the title--Bohemia has revealed the game's system requirements [via PC Gamer]. At first glance the requirements look to command a military-grade computer upgrade; however, we're confident that the hardest of the hardcore will likely be able to answer the call to jump into the next installment of the highly advanced series.

  • OS: Windows 7 / Vista

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 or AMD Athlon Phenom X4 or faster

  • GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 or ATI Radeon HD 5770, shader Model 3 and 896 MB VRAM, or faster

  • RAM: 2 GB

  • HDD: 15 GB free space

  • DVD: Dual Layer compatible

  • DirectX: 10

We hope to learn more (including advanced PC feature support) from the developer at E3 2011, which kicks off early next month.

..... DX10? If it uses the Radeon 5K series it better use DX11.

It also supports the GTX 260 which is only DX10. It will likely use DX11 though as that lets you run on DX10 hardware as well with ease.

Doesn't matter. Bohemia Interactive is notoriously bad at the "interactive" level. It doesn't matter what the requirements for this game are, odds are they won't fix the control problems the Flashpoint games have had for almost a decade now.

yeah they really didn't need to update their graphic at all, but they really need to polish everything else about their games.

The bad and chaotic control system is what turned it off for me when playing the demo. I don't want to play an FPS/Tactical game where I have to press 35+ buttons just to achieve something. Even SWAT 4 had a more intuitive interface.

Those are some pretty steep system requirements considering they're minimum specs. Funny thing is, despite that, I don't think the game looks all that great from an artistic point of view. The ultra realistic desaturated look doesn't appeal.

Whatever the game is, someone always has to hate the colors.

        "Too colorful"
        "Too bleak"
        "Too brown"
        "Too cartooney"

true that. i guess some people really need to whine about something.

This may be due to the fact that everyone has a different perception of colours.

Are these min specs? or ideal?
i mean seems not commanding to me...
ive had a system w/ sli gtx 260's for nearly 2 years....

      gotta be minimum spec.

I'm glad they're going to give us more Armed Assault!! My whole team/clan loves this game!! While I love the screen shots, what I really hope they change is to polish up the interface and command structure a bit. I'd also like to see the mod support brought in line with current games. The way ArmAII's mod support is now it's easier to try and give yourself a kidney transplant than use a mod in an existing map. Want to use that new F15 you just downloaded? Don't want to make your own map for it? Then put it on an existing map! Just unpack the existing one, place the model, write the loadouts, edit the files for the inventory list, etc etc etc. Look I'm no programmer but there has to be an easier way!!

That's kind of a funny way to say it. Military grade gaming hardware would probably be super rugged, never crash, and run the game at 5fps or so.

Holy hell! This leaves me to wonder: can my PC (Intel Core i7-950 processor and Radeon HD 6770 graphics card) even run this game on medium settings???
