Cthulhu Saves the World PC includes Breath of Death VII free

The PC port of Zeboyd's Xbox Live Indie Games RPG will include its retro-styled other hit, Breath of Death VII, free--all for only $3.

The enhanced PC port of Zeboyd's retro-styled RPG Cthulhu Saves the World will also include its hit debut Breath of Death VII: The Beginning for free, the developer has announced. And it'll still only be $3 for the pair of them.

A retro-styled RPG filled with knowing nods and winks to the genre's history, Breath of Death VII picked up a cult following when it was released on Xbox Live Indie Games last year at the bargain price of $1. Cthulhu Saves the World followed in December at $3 during the community-organised Xbox Live Indie Games promotion Winter Uprising, somehow successfully turning the Lovecraft mythos into another fun retro RPG.

The PC edition of Breath of Death VII is built upon Cthulhu's engine so it'll boast several improvements over the original, including rebinding controls and the ability to save anywhere.

Cthulhu's PC port has been funded by fans through a Kickstarter project, where Zeboyd was seeking $3,000 so it could complete the port and bring its improvements to the XBLIG original too. $6,898 ended up being pledged in all.

Last week, Zeboyd said that it hopes to launch Cthulhu Saves the World this month. A Steam release has been confirmed.

Same here, and I've felt guilty for not playing them beyond 5 minutes. I just don't have any urge to turn on my Xbox 360 anymore. I'll definitely get these on Steam and play them for sure.

              wtf, Matt. wtf. :(

Can't wait to hear your impressions on 'em. Definitely gotta play BoDVII first since CStW advanced a lot of the gameplay ideas and improved the design a good bit, but it was still a darn good stab at taking everything that was great about oldschool jrpgs, throwing out everything that sucked, and then adding in all sorts of modern enhancements without ruining the flavor.

Yeah I almost wish they would charge more.

$10 might take it out of some people involuntary impulse range but $5 at least...

I hear Cthulu is pretty short though. I'd definitely pay $5 though. $10 would be a bit outside the impulse buy range for most people.

They're both fairly short little adventures (~6hrsish?)

          but they're damn good.

I dunno... 3 bucks seems a bit steep. I'd consider it at 2.50 though!

lol, just kidding, these games looks awesome, why is he practically giving them away for free?

I wondered that myself. I contributed to his Kickstarter, because I played this on the Xbox and thought that it deserved a wider release. Perhaps he is simply pricing it cheaply, because he wants to be generous, because others were generous with him? Either way, win-win for all!

That is awesome. Thanks to roushimsx I picked up these games on the 360 back in the day and they are well worth the $3. Good humor classic gameplay and not overly long.
